Re:b16 vs. gsr head

i heard that the b16 heads flow more cfm. the gsr head does have larger ports and will yeild a higher cr than the b16 head on an lsvtec setup. for turbo setup, i'd go with gsr head because of the more agressive cams. i think the dual stage intake mani sucks monkey balls so just do what abaz said and take em out. theres another way to keep the butterflies open at all time but i cant remember, i think its plugging up the vacuum line of something. consider that it will hurt your low end and gain some high end if running the stock p72 ecu.

i used a gsr on my ls-v, it raises your cr. by .2 over b16. and to keep the butterflys open full time just remove the vacume line from the vacume pot. I paid 1000 canadian for mine with aperintly type r cams and springs, but im not too sure how true that is, it also has 1mm oversized valves. that was with dizzy and intake. some think thats over priced, my budy picked up a mint itr head complete for 1500 canadian. good luck :)

also the GSR used 2 differnet head castings ::) 92-93 used a PR3 and 94-01 used a P72 ;)

Yeah, the 92-93 is pretty much a staight B16 with diff. crank/rods.

when building the ls/vtec, for some reason i think your supposed to use the water pump for the same type of engine the head came from. like gsr head to gsr water pump, and b16 head to b16 water pump. does ---- like that matter?

Re:b16 vs. gsr head

no, the ls and b20 water pump are 19 tooth and use ls timing belt. gsr is 21 tooth and uses gsr belt thats the only diference. both blades are pr4, just diferent pully.

all VTEC water pumps (21teeth) are the same, non-VTECs are the same (19teeth)... you can use a non-VTEC pump but you need to use a B18A/B belt and if you use a VTEC pump you NEED a GSR/ITR belt... you CANT use a B16 belt, the deck is shorter and it will never reach ;)

For NA ya, a B16a head ported all out is "supposivly" better, But why does leslie durst, and Erics racing both use GSR heads in their all motor B-series though? They are the 2 fastest b-series all motor engines around. Kinda makes you wonder.
