b16 turbo in 86 crx

Anyone got detailed instructions on installing a turbo on a b16 is a 86crx - I heard I will need multiple check valves not sure where or why ( for the MAp sensor) and where can I get a 2 bar map?

Any other issues I should know about?

taiajam 03-23-2009 12:09 PM

only if ur using an FMU

86crx 03-25-2009 04:08 AM

What's an fmu?

I may be getting a hondata ecu.

Turbo News 03-25-2009 06:36 AM

fmu = fuel management unit...

HMTsol 03-25-2009 07:31 AM

You might need obd1 ECU and just chip it, works the bast and cheepest. Dont use FMU your engine is not gonna last long.
You need bigger injectors like 450cc-500cc good for 10psi-12psi, and bigger fuel pump like Walbro 255. And for the map just use GM 3 bar but you gonna have to chip your ECU first just to start it up. And for the turbo don't go too small, even if your boosting only 7psi, look for 57 trim its good up to 400 whp.
For the wastegate use external one, not internal NO...
And for the exhaust you have to go at least 2.5" diameter with no catalic convereter, stock cataloic converters will couse detonation on boosted cars, or you can use hi flow. It all depends haw fast you want it to be and who's gonna tune it for you, just basemaps no good...

What I have so far is a garrett gt2540R turbo and I ultimately plan to go to 30 lbs boost or more if possible - this will not be a street car

anyone know how much power a b16 can make?

HMTsol 03-28-2009 05:09 PM

gt25 can.t to even 14lb... lol

86crx 03-28-2009 06:38 PM

it's a gt2540R

HMTsol 03-28-2009 07:01 PM

I know its ball bearing. 250whp max. I know because we had gt28r on our b16 and 300whp max thats it. It went from 16psi to 12lb because it coudnt go no more way too small, yours even smaller. Go with 57 trim its gonna be bast for you. But its all depends haw much hp you want.

86crx 03-28-2009 07:44 PM

Garrett rates it at 450hp.

.86 a/r exh - .70 a/r comp.

HMTsol 03-29-2009 01:03 AM

450hp yah with a bigger engine like 2.4, but not b16 its still too small.
But thats your choise try it will see what hapens.

86crx 03-29-2009 02:27 PM

What size turbo would it take to make 500+hp?

This will be a full race car so I want to start where I am and then go over 500hp.

Also what are good cams to use?

HMTsol 03-29-2009 03:21 PM

The bast choise to go is Precision SC6262 turbo with .63 housing and BLOX Type-B cams. Thats what I'm gonna use you'll see my dyno charts soon.

86crx 03-29-2009 04:44 PM

what info do you have on the blox type C - is C better than B?

I want to get parts that I won't have to replace later as I build more power.

HMTsol 03-29-2009 04:48 PM

Blox B's are good up to 700+whp, I made 90whp over my B16, amasing power and torck, you will love it.

86crx 03-29-2009 06:31 PM

do you know a good (cheap) place to get them?

Anubis_4_99 03-29-2009 08:05 PM

from the sounds of what you want, and what you've shown in knowledge in the area, i suggest you go do ALOT of research before you even spend any money.

you say your getting a hondata ECU but that you think you need check valves, and are asking for detailed instructions to install a turbo...

you'll need to build the motor before you can even think about the ammount of power you want to run

so, go read, read some more, and when you think you know what your talking about. keep reading.

theres an assload of info here, all you have to do is look for it

I think they go for $350, thats a realy good price for sacha good cams.
One of our sponsor has them for very good price: https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...ual-valve.html

I would recomand Performance spring and titanium retainers like skunk 2 or BLOX is fine so you could go more rpms like 9,500 for that big of a turbo.
And dont forget to put obd2 oil pump if you dont have one because of that I spoon my rod bearing last time on the dino.

If you do what I'm teling you your car is gonna be very fast... :)
