Anyone use Rotella?

Ok
For my engine break in, im gonna use some cheap ass 5w30 dinosaur oil.
After the break in, im thinking of going with this.

I was at the local speedway and a guy suggested it to me.
Its only 15 bucks for 5 quarts.
He has a 9 sec turbo mustang sooooooo
Just wondering on any opinions. ???

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

I'd use it. I used regular Rotella T to break my engine in actually.

rotella t 15w-40 change it every 5k.

I think dvst8r uses it in his Freightshaker.

Delo 400 diesel oil in the CI-4 classification.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

I've been running the Rotella synthetic 5w-40 in my daily driver Saab 900 turbo and all seems fine. It's on it's second oil change with the Rotella and I've been boosting around 15psi. The car seems happy (for something shaped like a shoe) so I'll probably stick to using it.

I've heard some decent things about Rotella T. I use Durablend in my car though.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

I run Rotella in the XR. Good stuff. :y

I heard it has an additive that will plug a catalytic converter if burned... so... beware if you use one. Chances are your car burns oil if you're a member of HMT. Then again, it's equally probable you don't use a cat. :)

Bullshit we were looking for no name oil for the dodge.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

I've been told the Rotella contains extra detergents to help keep the engine internals clean. Don't most big rigs run cats? Rotella is mainly used in those vehicles. I would think their cats would clog.

Kinda gave up on that after superstore fell through.

Think I might just buy a drum of Rotella, and run it for everything.

may as well, everything you own is diesel anyway.

dont run it in a 6.0l ford diesel, the injectors hate it. Dont know why but thats what I have read, I run amsoil in mine.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

only real legitmite difference in higher end brand name engine oils is the additive package they provide.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

for you guys running heavier weight oils, do you notice any problems on cold start up? i mean like sub 40's and lower, or do you live in warmer climates. i run synthetic 5w30 in the winter and summer and have been considering trying something a lil heavier. also, cant using a higher viscosity oil ---- with an engine that is clearanced and built to run a thinner weight oil.

RotaryGeek 03-06-2008 02:36 PM

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

i use it in my eg and forget to change it for like 5k miles. still dont have any problems with it. good cheap oil right there.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

I used to run the rotella 15w40 in my old b16a hatch, that stuff was great. Great oil pressure, never broke down and left all that brown gunk in my head, and cheap too. Don't run that weight in colder temps though, it can be cranky to start and with how thick the oil gets in cold weather isn't really good for the motor either.

My new ride gets Mobil 1 full synthetic for daily driven days, and Royal Purple for hard abuse track days.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

I use Rotella non stup in the Tercel. It was only a few bucks more then the no name stuff so I figured "why not", plus it burns off slower.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

big rigs dont run cats. the new emmisions standard force most of them to have a dpf. some also have a regen system that shoots fuel down the exhaust and reburns. exhaust temps can reach around 2000 degrees during regen.

rotella Is the best. It has something to do with the zinc it has. We were a freightliner dealer and had drums of it back in the day.

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

rotella is for dieasel trucks not really for your cars it has good cleaning property due to the fact it made for dieasel engines and burns off slower cause dieasels run at higher temps duh, and zinc is a metal mineral so lets put just put sand in the valve cover, before you call bs read about it and other oils

I think you are the one mistaken. Zinc is a good additive to have in the oil. Where did you get your info???
Zinc is an anti-wear additive in the event of metal on metal contact.
High zinc levels can cause plug fowling and in some cases deposits but I think the detergents also in the rotella will take care of that.

swift is the circus of trucking companies and you are dreadfully wrong on this subject. For example, my engine builder who builds top fuel etc. Said it and delo are the oils he only reccomends.

I'll get back with a more in depth response to why later.

dude close you diarea spout the gasaline rating they list was developed in the early 80's, not near what todays cars require ,first word in the link state something about dieasel if it was for gas it would have started with that the oil was design for truck period it just that it can be used in cars but it not up to snuff on requirements

Re: Anyone use Rotella?

You've proved to us you can't spell and now it seems you either can't or aren't willing to read the link above. I'll post a little more for you to dispute:

The exclusive Shell formulation offers users exceptional performance and protection in combination with enhanced fuel economy potential over conventional 15W-40 motor oils. This synthetic multigrade engine oil meets the service requirements of virtually all four cycle diesel and many gasoline engine manufacturers.

Applications

* Recommended for new and older diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles, including personal vehicles and commercial vehicles such as on-road, off-the-road, truck rental, pickups, delivery, utility, and school bus fleets
* Meets or exceeds the diesel engine requirements of API CI-4 PLUS, Cummins CES 20078, Detroit Diesel, John Deere, Dodge, Ford, GM, International, Mack EO-N Premium Plus 03, Volvo and others; For gasoline engines, it exceeds API SL.

Features/Benefits

* Formulated for multipurpose use, simplifying inventory needs
