Anyone turbo'd a 2.3l ranger? Newer etc...
as the subject stats, me and my buddy are gonna slap a tbird turbo onto this 97 Ford Ranger 2.3l, Modfiying the gate to 5-6psi and probably just using a fmu and pound it. What are some other options for these fords, I've heard of putting larger injectors in and then having maf's recalibrated etc, or maybe put a ford aerostar maf in because they rip. guess I havent done much research on this so maybe someone else has? Tips hints etc.. megasquirter is an option,
btw book time to r&r a oil pan from the ranger is 6.4 hours which means the engine needs to be removed from the car. Should make putting the oil retun fitting in the pan a huge dirty ----. I'm thinking remove the MM's and just jack the motor/trans up until it just simply wont go any higher, or the harness has ripped off. this tecnique has worked great for me in the past ambien for the win. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Is that bascially the same motor that is in the turbo Mustangs etc?Eville140 had a RX7 with one of those in it running 10's with 400plus whp Trucks especially 4 bangers are nice as there is so much room to work with.

that whould be awesome if you could just bolt on the svo manifold with a larger garrett turbo.

I'd try to ignore the fact he posts on TurboD16 if you can though.

non turbo 2.3l's are weaksauce. at 6psi with 12:1 afrs and conservative timing, you'll still melt a piston. You need to swap the 2.3l turbo engine in the truck. Its probably easier, and you'll be much happier with the end result. Check out turborangers.com, they have a great FAQ about everything you need to throw the turbo engine in. It even tells you what years are the best to buy ect.
the only somewhat difficult ---- you gotta do is repin the ecu and modify the heater box for turbo clearance (only certain years)

if you dont wanna use the stock ford electronics, i am deep in a megasquirt project on a 7mgte supra using MSII with ford edis 6. It is incredibely easy to wire up and it doesnt seem like its gonna be too hard from hear on out. The whole ignition consists of a trigger wheel (mounted to crank pulley) vr sensor (goes close to the wheel) coil packs, and an ignition module. Only 2 wires run from the module to the megasquirt to hook up the ignition.
