The 2.2's aren't bad, its just that Dodge had some weird methods to their madness. Balance shafts all over, cams that are lift-limited because of the bearings they slip through, etc. There's also the heavy chassis to consider. If you really want to go fast in an old 2.2 Dodge, you'll get the Omni/GLH chassis. I recall Superstreet featured one, and did low 11's or high 10's with slicks. Not rusty, but the -----brown paint and plain styling made it a total sleeper.
IMO their not bad for the money, but its not hard to turbo an EF and make them look like they're standing still for the same price. There's also the wrong way to mod them, I once found some 'blog' with a Shadow guy pushing 26psi - and only getting 13's with slicks. :1

I pretty much have always liked the cars. The fact that it takes a little bit more work to get them going fast is something I like. Nothing against hondas, but WAY to many people run around with them, and seeing a fast one is cool, but not impressive anymore. I mean Not everyone has a turbo dakota like me. :1

I'd love to find one in good shape when I actually had the extra $$ to spend on something like that. Stephen Beauregard runs in the 8's I believe with a Charger GLHS, another badass TD...

With an 89 2.2 intercooled motor. Use a zener diode to bypass the Overboost shutdown, add extra fuel (throw in 20% larger injectors) add a manual boost controller to run 18/19 psi, put in an exhaust cutout and run mid /high 13's on street tires. (pray the clutch lasts). Total investment aside form the car, $300. Been there, still doing that. A auto wrecker will become your best friend and source of parts.

safc? tune? lol... Build some 3 inch side exit, go to the JY and find a turbo ford 2.3 with brown top injectors. They are about the same as +20's and are cheap. You also wont need to touch the fuel pressure, just bolt them in the comp will do the rest. Decide how you want to disable cutout, and crank the boost to 18psi. Set the timming at 10, and your in the 13's with good susp and tires.
