Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
I going to get me another totally stock 94 CX hatch on Monday and I thought I would play around with it a little before I just the throw the crap motor away and go to a Y8 or a B16...Anyone ever play with one of these 60 Hp beasts and boost? What kind of results did you get?

Buy my T25 ;D im, jk. A friend of mine boosted his 97 DX hatch and he could barely keep up with my friends GSR.

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
Damn...if that was a DX, then this CX would be totally pointless...oh well, I really trying to decide if I want to go B or D with this car...Should I put up a poll?

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
take the stock motor and boost it. get your new engine and when you are ready to put it in go to get it street tuned with no wastegate and recorde the distruction. 8)

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
I had a stock cx engine and put on a z6 top end, then boosted it. It was great.
When I sold the car, I put back the cx top end. |
Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
Any times? Do you ever find out how much power you were making? I'm very used to my B-series and I don't want to be let down after doing a bunch of work...BTW, does anybody know what the compression would be with the CX bottom end and a Z6 or Y8 head?

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
I ran a 15.6 with the mini-me N/A and 14.0 boosted. This was in a 95 coupe.

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
a friend of mine did it, as a joke while tryin to bl0w the motor he didnt use fuel managment, it lasted awhile. longer than it should have. i dont recommend it. but throw some s0rt of 16valve head on it and it wil be fine boosted.

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
seriously, 16 valve heads go for about 35-40 bucks. put one on it with a dx intake manifold and a dx tranny, and boost it. 180 whp and alot of fun

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
I don't know how to say this, but if you're only getting 180 whp out of it...that's not going to be enouph to make me happy. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up with a B16 in this car anyway..
|
Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
180 whp...... shouldnt be too bad, especially if you are considering a b16 which will have what 130 whp, and 100 wheel tq. keep in mind that the 180 whp turbo will still have like 160 tq to the wheels?
Unless you plan on boosting the b16 anyways |

ignore the 16 valve valve cover, this is a stock d15b8. my friend mike ran it for months, then we fixed the wastegate so it actually built boost at a decent rate (the gate was sticking open) he blew it up 2 days later at 15 psi. |

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
Sounds like you have your mind made up. This is hmt, of course we are gonna want to go with the cheapest, ghettoest route, i.e turbo d, i personally would go with the turbo d, mainly because im a cheap bastard.

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
Oh yes, I agree with the HMT ideal, but I do need this one to be dependable...after I get done with this setup, I plan to get another hatch and build a race car...I won't be happy until I get 10's from a hatch. BTW, does anyone here know how much HP a 60-1 is good for with a .63 stg 3 turbine in it? I can find maps, but nothing that gets specific on the turbine size as well as the compressor...the compressor part is easy. I just want to make sure I sizing thing right to make 500-550 whp. This will be for that race car when I get there....

Re: Anyone here ever boost a stock CX motor?
i slapped a z6 head on my old b8 and boosted it 10psi for about 6 months before i pulled it out! it ran 8.90's in the 1/8
