Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
Hey, after going all over the net looking and finding no answers, I was curious if anyone has ever built a custom FI setup for a non-turbo DSM car. I have a 91 Eclipse and want to decide how to rebuild it. Money isnt really an option since it will be a longterm rebuild. If anyone has ever added a turbo or supercharger to their non-turbo car I would like to hear how you did it. I am not interested in rebuilding the car with DSM turbo specs but rather using only aftermarket parts. Anyone?

Re:Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
It already has the non-turbo 2.0 dohc. Its different from the turbo engine..higher compression and different oil passages. It was a toss-up between buying a NT for 500 or a AWD turbo for 4k, and considering I would to get some high numbers from it I would have to rebuild the turbo engine anyway to handle it. Doesnt seem much of a difference in cost or labor to reach the same goal with either car, except I would rather have gotten AWD but I couldnt find a car within 400 miles of here

Re:Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
if money and time really arent an isue I would probably just wait until a gst comes up for sale around you and get that. You'll be satisfied with the factory bump in power for a whille and you have to be boosting a lot until you need to beef up the internals.

Re:Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
I'd give Hahn Racecraft a holla..they manufacture kits for non-turbo DSM's...putting together a turbo kit for your car would be like putting one together for a honda...a couple of places sell T3/T4 kits for turbo DSM's, you'd just have to come up with something for fuel management....keep in mind, if your car is FWD, traction is gonna be a BIIIG problem....

Re:Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
No doubt, I have found alot of kits to add boost to a nt car, and I figure I will give it a shot. I aint worried about going with convention, I really prefer to build the car the way I want it and experiment. The FWD problem will be there, and I am not sure how I will overcome it, but for now I am gonna stick to this car and hold it, then when I can afford it I might pick up a S2000, NSX, or a Supra. It will be fun to rebuild it and see how much I can squueze from it with the options I have.

Re:Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
unless you have a good solution for the fuel setup or are going to convert to that off a turbo car, it might be easier to just start with a turbo first gen, they are a dime a dozen (especially ones with fucked up motors for you to rebuild)

Re:Anyone done a custom DSM FI setup?
here's a lil info on the DSM's
go w/ the 1st gen 6 bolt block, the 7 bolt GST gets crankwalk. change the timing belt every 50k miles... a buddy of mine has 5 dsm blocks and *ALL* of them have dents in the pistons from where the t-belt streched and the valves started hitting the pistons..... DSM's are notorious for this! you can get a turbo 4g63 shortblock for next to nothing, just make sure its a 1st gen 90-93! you dont want crankwalk from the 7 bolt (flywheel) block to make the car accept the turbo... u need to swap wiring harnesses that's all for now mike |
