Anybody had any positive experiences with some cheap e-bay turbos?

Right blaast?
Right blaast?
On most automotive cars, oil pressure is like 60-80 ish. if you feed all that pressure through the turbo and it doesn't smoke, you're lucky. Even a brand new turbo on a honda with a 1/8" feed may smoke like crazy according to what i have seen! That's because the center section gets completely filled in with oil and overflows.
i have seen lots of leaking/smoking problems solved by adding the 1/16" restrictor and I never seen startvation problems caused by it. so really, you can'T go wrong.

- your engine has perfect compression
- you are using a oil feed line that is small enough to serve as a restrictor by itself
- You have a nice big, straight oil drain
- You use proper oil such as 10-40 or 5-50, not the ------- 5-30 that is for atmospheric engines.
- You have a top mount or otherwise High mounted turbo
- Your feed hose is plugged to the head rather than the block, so you get less pressure but this is BAD for your engine.

so 10 w40 is better for a turbo then 10 w30
I thought the thicker oil create greater oil pressure?
I know it has a better heat break down capasity but it slows the rotating mass right?
just wondering

The first number is not very important as far as the turbo is concerned because the turbo quickly gets HOT and the viscosity at HIGH temperature is what you have to look for.
10-30 getts runny like water within the turbo. It breaks down quicker but most importantly, it doesn'T lubricate much, cooks into a harmfull crust inside the turbo and on the shaft and is more prone to leak out. And then, you return that soup to your engine..... And it stinks wheni rebuild your turbo.
5-50 is the best. it remains more viscous at higher temperatures, therfore maintains a good cooling and lubrication efficiency, slows down wear, and lasts longer.
not sure but i think 5-50 is available only in syntetic verson.

Re: Anybody had any positive experiences with some cheap e-bay turbos?
i have here at my shop a pile of 5 chinese intercoolers of different sizes and "brands" with some the passes that have blown out. Some people have tried to temporarily fix the problem with epoxy glue (pretty). PAsses are just brazed together, which should normally be ok but apparently, chinese fabrication processes and quality control is as leaky as their intercoolers.
