Default another pcv system question

in this picture:


whats the point of that tank? why not just dump that tube anywhere into the air?

also i looked up that tank by part number on jegs or somewhere, cant u just use a ebay catch can? whys that one got a filter on the can?

You can't dump it into the air because then your ventalation system won't have a suction to pull the fumes from your crankshaft.

It doesn't have to be that exact catch can. Any catch can will do, I'm using an air/water seperator for air compressors.

me too. the line can't just dump anywhere because it needs vaccuum to open the pcv valve. You need a catch can so that it doesn't just suck oil from your crankcase right into your turbo and your intake air, lowering your octane rating and possibly causing detonation
