Alternative Turbo Timer

Alternative Turbo Timer
Ok, I installed a Blitz FATT in my buddies GTI today and I got to thinking about a cheaper way to do the same thing. I thought it would be cool to let my car run after driving just to let it settle a bit, since I don't have a turbo (yet?).
Ok, basically all the turbo timer does is allow 12v to continue flowing from the constant 12v, to the ignition lead, and shuts it off after a programmed time or whatever setting you choose.
So I figure a capacitor stores energy and releases it over time, right? So if we just choose the right capacity capacitor, you could let it power the ignition to let it run until the power is out. So if we hook up one side to the ignition lead, and the other to a ground, once we shutoff the ignition, it will keep running until the capacitor is empty, thus the larger size capacitor for the longer time.
What do you think, would this work I'm gonna try it tomorrow, regardless, and I'll let you know...

Re:Alternative Turbo Timer
if you read carefully you will notice that there is a relay, not a direct ignition to 12v constant capacitor. Im sure that the ignition demands would overload a small cap?
A cap can be used on a relay that connects to constant 12v?

Re:Alternative Turbo Timer
That's another darn good idea, the one on Hobbytron with the relay seems like it woould work well, isn't it funny how much we pay just to have a brand name and a display...

I'm still gonna try the capacitor idea...

Re:Alternative Turbo Timer
I think the real way you would do it would to use a 555 timer IC because you can use different resistors to trigger a relay after an amount of time. So you would need a 555 IC chip and a relay, and then search online and there will be sites that you can type in how many seconds you want and they'll tell you what size resistor to use on the 555 chip.

The 555 would be another idea, My whole capacitor idea was (as my dad put it) the ultimate poor mans method. We're talking single piece system, I tried it for a second, but didn't have much time. BTW, which lead is the ignition lead, Black w/ yellow or Black w/ white, or am I way off. I couldn't find it in the manual...
