Are all z6 motors vtec?
Are all z6 motors vtec? And how would you tell if it has a vtec head or not. If so... what would be a good rpm to set the v-tec controller at? Any info on vtec.. and how u tell what motor has it would be great. As well as, pros and cons of vtec vs non vtec. thanks
Well if it has the VTEC logo on the valve cover it is a VTEC Head. (because i dont think these valve covers fit other heads) theres 2 different models on the SOHC VTEC
D15Z1 1.5L SOHC 16-Valve VTEC E (92HP)
D16Z6 1.6L SOHC VTEC (125HP)
The Vtec activation depends on various factors such as
Engine RPM
Engine Speed (MPH)
Throttle Position
Engine Load
Coolant temp
So your VTEC wont activate at the same time all the time... it varies...
But im pretty sure that RPM wise its somewhere around 5100RPM
But if you chip it or controll it you can set it to lower or higher RPMs

Dont forget the D16y8 is also a Single Cam Vtec, from 96 and up civics.
EDM also has some Single cam vtecs, that are lower displacement, like D14's and other variants of the d15z's
Some 92 Z6's have black valve covers that do not even say vtec on them, beaware, look for the vtec solinoid.
