Adjustable oil resistor
Hey,
Did try a search but it dosent seem to be working? Turbos due to go on next weekend so im just trying to sort all of the misc things before i go ahead. Ive got an adjustable oil resistor for my t3 and im unsure how far i need to adjust it... would half way do? thats it for the moment.... Thanks Marc ps. heres some tits as a thank you to the people that reply http://images3.bangbros.com/bigtitsr...94/t1/big1.jpg |
Re: Adjustable oil resistor
what is it an ssauto or something? if not id just leave it full open and if you notice any smoking or puking from the seals slowly close it little by little til it goes away.

Re: Adjustable oil resistor
not ss.
ar reasearch, 42 48 ar. is that how everyone else does it ??? dont really fancy screwing my seals... |
Re: Adjustable oil resistor

Re: Adjustable oil resistor
issit adjustable oil pressure resistor we're talking about herE?
|
Re: Adjustable oil resistor
umm yea.. dont listen to that haha
you should only need an oil restrictor if its ball bearing and.. what i did on my old set up was setup two gauges.. one was engine oil pressure. restrictor and then turbo oil presure it was pretty baller and you have to have it pretty much closed the whole way before it will evan reduce oil pressure.. but put a gauge after it and it will tell you ..but higher rpm's more oil pressure.. so.. idk i set mine at like 7-10 at idle.. |
Re: Adjustable oil resistor
the thing is im having too high oil press for my turbo now and it blew 2 x unit turbo seal in 1 yr period. now i know i need oil press restrictor but i do have plan for oil cooler soon.
now if i hook up a restrictor now, for sure the press to my turbo will reduce but will i have sufficient return press for my oil cooler and thn back to my oil pan? |
Re: Adjustable oil resistor
cool it before it goes to the restrictor with a plate from the oil filter

Re: Adjustable oil resistor
I wouldn't throw the oil cooler into the mix unless you're positive that it's needed. On the restrictor:

Re: Adjustable oil resistor
why not just stick a generic restrictor in the turbo.
http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=OIL it jsut has to have a 0.060" hole right before the turbo. when i first got my turbo i had a big smokeing problem, eveytime i would stop and the revs would stop i would get white smoke coming out of the exhast, made my own restrictor with 0.060" hole in it and it worked like a charm. havent seen smoke since. |
Re: Adjustable oil resistor
but don't once the turbo remit white smoke, means the seal was gone and cant be use anymore?
|
Re: Adjustable oil resistor
No, it means you've pushed oil passed the seal, but the seal more often than not isn't "broken", it just had enough oil pressure to push oil past it. That's when you restrict it, let the excess oil burn off of it, and then drive like a nutjob happily ever after.

Re: Adjustable oil resistor
lucky i havent throw the turbo away
