I recently added this to my collection of parts in the garage. its off an 82 Mercedes but Im not sure if its an adjustable BOV or an external wastegate. The turbo was already gone so I never got a look at it. I think its a BOV just with an adjustment nut on top. Where that blue spot of paint is on the top is the adjustment nut.

looks more like a wastegate to me. Solid, iron and carbonated.

i think it's a EGR valve. what are IDs of inlet and outlet?

 

The long piece measures 1" and the carbon coated piece (with the 2 mount holes next to it) measures about 3/4"

 

definately a WG. Was the other end conected to the exhaust when you took it off?

 

defiantly a WG. my dad has on of those old turbo diesel Mercedes, with the same WG.

 

Yes the bottom was connected to the exhaust manifold when i found it.
