Default 66 Mustang Turbo

Hey guys,

I have almost got my turbo pieced together for my Honda. It includes a custom manifold, welded together by my buddy, a T3 turbo, DSM injectors, a Zdyne Gold SECU, and a FMIC. I am going to get MSD for my ignition, and I have to get my charge piping done yet, but the kit has been moving along since I got home.

My real question here is I bought a 66 Mustang Coupe that I plan on boosting. It has a 3.3 Liter Inline logheaded six cylinder engine. The Intake is integrated into the head of the engine and it has really crappy flow characteristics, plus it is all iron. The engine is torquey as hell, but HP sucks on it. What kind of turbo would be recomended for this type of engine. I am looking at having the same buddy weld a custom mani for this car as well, but with the log head, I am really stuck with the crappy stock intake. The motor itself is said to be indestructable by everyone I've talked to. It is all iron, and I am sure that it can be blown just like any other engine. I plan on doing a complete teardown and rebuild of it over next summer. I would like to begin searching the goody yards for parts for this project in the mean time though. I love other peoples junk. It is just a gold mine for me now. Anything you could tell me about would be great. I also have to look into how to fab a carburator box as well.

Thanks for all you help on my Honda project.

Jon

yeah thats the 200ci six.. it has seven mains.. pretty much bullet proof bottom end....seeing how the RPM limits of that motor are about 5K.... i would think you'd want a fairly quick spooling turbo.?? but i dont know dick.. so yeah...also.. if you want a head that flows a little better get yourself a 250CI head form a granada or someting from late 70's 80's.or you could cut off the stock intake.. and weld on a custom one...check out www.cliffordperformance.com. ... and www.fordsix.com i think there are a FEW guys that have boosted the 200's on ford six

-good luck

I'd go with a Single T3/T4 hybrid turbo on that thing, something like a .57trim .60comp/.63ex compressor, and go with a nice Tial 38mm gate should probably do just fine, I wish I had more experience with Domestic turbocharging. I've never turbo'd a carb setup.

Keep me posted, my brother has the same car, and he has thought about doing something like that, but never started. His is a 66 6-cyl, with pony interiors, I think they called it the sprint 200 edition. I like them, I want to get a 66 or 67 fastback and put a 302 on it. SWEET

SVO 60-trim .60/.63 garrett T3, unless you have $650 for a T3/T4 which would be better.

Inline 6 is the best, why do you guys think the supras do so well with stock block ?? (7)6-bolt mains..

5000rpms, hehe...

I've got a T3/T4 for you that needs a rebuild $222 shipped for the turbo if you want it. it's fine, except it's been sitting for two years so it needs some TLC.

are you saying that that motor..as it sits will turn over 5000 rpm? if so... sorry... not really. physically, yes..im sure it is capable of handling much more than 5K but the cam/ restrictive head design limit it....

Most 10sec buick V6s don't turn over 6000rpms, don't take it like I'm putting it down, just sounds odd after hearing all the 12000rpm rotory wanna-bes talk about XXXhp at 8200rpms.

Hell my stealth cams are good till 9300rpms !!! But unles they are retarded, no one revs them that high...

yeah i gotcha.... my whole reason for mentioning the RPM of 5K was so that he would choose a turbo that matches it....he doesnt really want somehting that is most effecient at 6K when he can only rev to 5K
