50trim T3 vs TD04-13T
I have a chance to get a low-milage 13G off a newer WRX for cheap. I noticed its around the same CFM capacity as my current turbo (.42/.48 50trim T3, stg1 exhaust), so I'm curious if anyone knows if it would spool faster or slower? Overall, better or worse turbo. I know the one downside is the T3 is much cheaper to rebuild, but I'd likely get anoter 20-50k out of the WRX turbo.
I'm guessing it would spool better, but I really don't know much about non-garrett snails.

im almost positive the td04l-13t is smaller than a 42/48. i'm currently running the 13t on my y7/y8. starts spooling at like 1800rpm? hahaha and i hit 8lbs at around 3k in 3rd.
i used to have spec sheets on the turbo but i don't anymore. double check what you found cuz i was pretty sure its a great bit smaller than a saab 42/48

Well I've been really digging for more info, and while the usable CFM for the turbos seems to be close, I was thinking the 13T had more up to date compressor/turbine wheels. My guess is the housings make it fairly restrictive. When I do a really rough conversion, that 5500 on the 2.0L makes it ~6800 on a 1.6L, and thats about where my torque started dropping a lot (T3 50trim).
lkailburn, I'm interested in what manifold/dp/exhaust you're running. My current sinktrap (LX) mani and stock cat/b-pipe make for crazy lag, and I'm going to redo the whole setup soon...when I get more summer cash. I'm going to try another sinktrap (fully tubular), 3" dp, and an air cylinder actuated cutout... It should be nice for a 1.6L DD.

how high are you rev'ing that motor? 6800 is redline, i'd stay off the rev limiter :P
i run it with a ramhorn manifold, a 2.5" downpipe and a full 3" exhaust. High flow cat (to pass inspections) and a magnaflo 3" straight through muffler(OE style).

Well its a d16z6, I didn't say redline was 6800, I said torque on the dyno doesn't drop like crazy until 6800. Whp at 6800 is about the same as 7200 for my motor.
I've checked everywhere for chargepipe and pre-turbo exhaust leaks, and come to the conclusion its the flange on the LX mani (1.875") and the stock cat/b-pipe (1.875") that's restricting it. If nothing else, this shows how much a good mani and exhaust can do for you, but then again... I have $20 into my mani and exhaust :P
