Default -4an or 4an

What's really the difference?

Can 4an work with turbo oil feed fittings?

Or are all of the fitting -4an?

Thread pattern different maybe?

AN was developed for military purposes. The size of the fitting is the AN #, in your case 4, over 16... so a 4 AN is really 4/16" or 1/4". The - afaik is just a convention some people use.
