.42/.48 T3 question

I have an internally stock '95 integra. ssautoshit manifold that will be braced, a 2.5" downpipe made and I will probably be buying a 38mm tial wastegate. I have a Garret/AirResearch .42/.48 T3 and I was wondering, I was hoping to crack into the 12's on full slicks and race gas with the boost cranked. (I'll be running Crome, with wideband of course,Dsm 450's, and probably an ebay intercooler with some 2.5" charge piping, possibly even devilsown alky injection so i can crank the timing alittle.) Is .42/.48 ok? I'll be looking for anywhere between 15-20 psi at the most, at the track. On an everyday basis i'll probably be running only 10 psi. Should I upgrade the turbo, how would I go about doing that? I searched alot but I don't really know what to search for. I'd like to upgrade myself but i'm not sure if thats possible. I tried doing the calculations that are in the sticky but I guess my ------ O0 ADHD kicked in and I couldn't do the math.

Yeah, I was afraid of that..I bought the turbo refurbished, never used for $60 though. So, its not that big of a ---- up. Maybe i'll sell it and use the money for a SC61 or some ----.
edit: should I even bother running this turbo, or should I just get a different one?

So you're already to sell it when someone just says you fucked up?

Honestly it is too small for your motor.

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

what motor are you running in the 95 Integra?
You see, I have a 95 Integra also ;D I doubt anyone is running my motor.
Anyway, that turbo will be small for a B18*
If you had to run a T3, go for a .60/.63. Otherwise look for a T3/T4.

..internally stock LS, and in reply to jago..should I doubt a senior HMT member, or argue with him? I asked the question and he answered it.
So uh...anyone want to buy or trade a .42/.48 T3 rebuilt never used?(since rebuild)

Yeah..went there. I'm not afraid to say that I got confused half way through and gave up. But anyway..I'll probably use the turbo for alittle while and then upgrade.

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

Well I'll give you some non-formula math of sorts. Thats a 45 trim T3. The hotside is probably a stage 1, as 99.9% of these turbos were stage 1 OEM turbos.

A friend had a 1st gen b16a tuned on uber, 60trim T3, .60/.63 AR's, stage 1 wheel. 10psi got him about 250whp. FYI the 60 trim flows 36 lbs/min, and the 45 trim flows 21 lbs/min Alky would help get maybe 300whp, as it would kinda extend the turbo's effeciency a bit. The problem is nothing will help you past 6500, as thats below 60% eff. Volvos are something like 2.5L, and they run them, but you'd be MUCH better off with a larger turbo.

What I would suggest is sending the turbo in to Garrett to get modified. For the price of a small ssauto turbo, they could make it into a t3/t04b, t3/t04e, etc. Otherwise sell it on ebay, as these turbos fetch ~$100 in okay shape, and more if very clean/rebuilt. Then buy anything bigger than a super60 T3. :6

Like I said I'll probably run this turbo for alittle while, either sell the car or upgrade the whole manifold/turbo/downpipe setup to better ----.

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

that turbo will lose its ass at 6500 rpm, but an ls motor revs to 7,000 so you will only have about 500 rpm where the turbo starts to drop off, if it was a gs-r it would be a much bigger problem, but i gaurantee you can make mid 200's whp on 15 ish psi which is enough for low 13's and a pretty fast car, how fast the car really is will greatly depend on other things such as clutch selection, suspention set up, tire choice, and driver ability, no doubt a bigger turbo would be much better, how ever that turbo will make decent power....

Yeah, thats what I was thinking, I usually shift around 6800-6900 rpm anyway except for third, I usually wind third out. And i'll probably be going with an exedy clutch, M&H slicks on lenso's. SO if don't crack 12's i'll blow the ------' thing up trying to.

I can buy the turbo from you if you decide to sell. Lmk

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

a teggy LS can get around 300 hp on stock internals with a good tune. that turbo though wont even get you close to your goals. id reccomend a t3/t4 .48/.60 for those goals ,maybe a 50 trim. you can prob get away with the 450s but youd be pushing it. id rather get some 550 instead the water injection.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'll probably run the car with the this turbo and the 450's then upgrade everything to better ----, no sense in selling everything and starting over, i'm almost finished.

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

The turbo you have is ruffly good for 300hp,I am using the same turbo on my B18b 90 Integra, great little turbo, spools very fast, you could still use it just change the compressor wheel to a 50. like the t3 you get off a mustang SVO or thunderbird, they are pretty cheat on Ebay, you might even find a 60. make sure you get a matching compressor housing to or it will all be in vain.

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

YOU will not make 250whp with that turbo, give up nimrod. You're looking for a super 60.

Re: .42/.48 T3 question

Yeah, What were you thinking ::), kidding! despite what some people say it is a good turbo and can make big power with some modification O0

How hard is that to do? I thought that ---- was balanced from the factory

I have a 50 trim comp wheel on my .42/.48.

I had blaast install it when they rebuilt the turbo.
