Default 400hp Turbo selection and setup suggestions DOHC ZC

To Abaz and anyone else with experience and care to share.

how much power did you eventually yield from your built DOHC ZC?

I was kinda inspired to Turbo my ZC sometime back when you built your race ZC. That was where it all started really. I understand you've moved on to b-series, but your past experience with ZC will be really benefitial for me.

Here's my engine setup so far

DOHC ZC
Endyn Rollerwaves 75.5mm 8.54CR (Flush with the deck)
Endyn Eagle conrods
Block posted as per Larry's instructions
Balanced Crank
Cylinder head Full port job
Discreet angled valve job (Serdi 5 machined)
0.5mm oversized valves Endyn
Welded up quench pads
Crespo valvesprings
Custom Turbo camshafts 272degrees
Cometic HP Headgasket
ARP Headbolts

The engine has just been fully run in. It's time for turbo.

What is your experience tuning the engine around the 400HP region? I know the tuning window becomes really small. Larry's SOHC ZC is pushing over 400WHP. Honestly, my aim is to hit 400 to 450HP. As this is not a full race engine, i was hoping i'll be able to develop good power in a wider powerband. It has to be streetable and yet produce 400HP. From your experience is that remotely possible at all?

I'm quite interested in Precision SC50 turbo, what do you suggest? Who makes the most decent Turbo manifold for DOHC ZC? Seems everyone's gone on the b-series bandwagon. It's hard to find decent parts for DOHC ZC. Ebay turbo kits are crap.

I want an external wastegated manifold that features true equal length design. Any ideas?

Would appreciate alot if you point me to the right direction for buying my Precision turbo and other equipment i need for my turbo kit.

I will probably go for a zdyne gold ECU too.

If anyone has a t3/t4 precision turbo for sale or used zdyne ECU, manifold etc i'm really interested.

thank you!

Wow, almost exactly what I had done to my ZC. I'm still kind of sad I never finished that ******. Oh well,

"how much power did you eventually yield from your built DOHC ZC?"

Never finished it.. bailed

"What Turbocharger and why?"

Precesion SC34, Their isnt a whole lot of difference between the 34 and the 50 other than 15-20hp. I would also probably choose the .48 a/r housing too, These turbos spool pretty late on b-series and I can only imagne how it would spool on a D. This turbo can hit your hp goals and allow you to smoke the ---- out of corvettes all day long. I've seen dyno graphs with SC34's hitting well over their max HP.

"my aim is to hit 400 to 450HP. From your experience is that remotely possible at all?"

With the key componets you can do it, the turbo setup is going to dictate most of it and how well you can tune.

"Who makes the most decent Turbo manifold for DOHC ZC? "

Whos makes one? I'd probably make my own. But if you are not able to do it, I'd probably go with a full-race style Turbo manifold, they flow great and have been proven to make lots of power. Shitbird makes FR ripoffs for D-series that are about 400 dollars cheaper than full-race.

"Other tips"

I know nobody makes any aftermarket intake manifolds for the ZC, but you need to come up with something. In fact the guy who I sold my custom intake mani to he still has it and I dont think he is using it anymore, if your interested PM me. For wastegate I'd go with a Tial 40 or one of the new slick 44mm Vband wastegates.

Good luck,
Jeff

hi jeff,

Thanks for your reply! Didn't realise you actually replied to this post! Was watching it for quite some time and there was no reply from you. Anyways, i saw it by chance, really happy now!

Guess what, i couldn't wait to save up for a precision turbo, so i went ahead and bought a turbonetics T3/t4 instead. It's a used one, with a 50trim compressor, stage3 turbine 78trim on a 0.63AR housing. I think this turbo's gonna be really laggy? More like a T4 yeah? But it was affordable, so precision can come at a later stage, just want some boost for now.

I've also just bought a zdyne Gold SECU, now i need some injectors. How much flow do you think it'll require? Is 550cc sufficient?

Once the setup is installed, maybe you can share some of your earlier Maps on your previous setup?

How much did you pay for the 32x10 intercooler? I'm after one of these, any hook ups? PM me??

I will get into custom intake at a later stage, for now i have a 3inch exhaust system that i've to worry about.

If you have any other parts for the zc, pm me i'm interested. I've still got a long shopping list to go.

Thanks alot!

keith

hi josh,

thanks for your advice. I am seriously considering the shitbird manifold. I think they are good for the price! I really want a precision turbo, but just can't afford it at the moment. I was looking around for a second hand one but no one seems to be selling them! (Little wonder) They are so good no one's giving up on them!

I will definitely go for the precision sc34 at a later stage.

Do you think the hytech manifold will fit into a road going crx at all? Just a thought, because i can get them custom made here. I think it's super sexy!
