I can chime in with some experience.
D16z6, bone stock
t3/t04B s-trim, stg1 .48ar exhaust (16-fin compressor irrc)
HF mano
3" dp/full straight-through exhuast
interal WG, 3-bolt exit ported to a whopping 2.375" omfg :1
Spooled to 10psi by 4k. Don't know whp, but about 220whp worth of fuel being used.
D16z6, built 8.4ish:1, stock head
t3 50-trim, stg1 .48ar exhaust
sinktrap mani using terrible dx/lx header
3" dp to stock cat/1.875" b-pipe
knockoff 38mm WG
Spools to 6psi by 3800, makes 160whp. Clutch slips in 2nd+, and tranny is essentially dead. lol@free junk
The right exhaust (piping and turbine) will get you where you want to be with an 60-trim/s-trim/46-trim. Bigger exhaust helps everything, turbine diff's will swap spool time for flow/power. The main difference in the turbos is the compressor exducer size (if you ignore fin design). Its like 2.3/2.75/2.9", repectively. A bigger exducer means higher tip speed for same flow, theoreticly. The mitsu guys 'clip' their wheels so the turbo can spin faster before tip speed is supersonic (death to flow). Go super60 and enjoy it.
