Default 20v turbo wagon project update

Posted a while back about the turbo AE92 Corolla wagon project I'm working on. Its still coming along, although I still havent got the car back from having the motor rebuilt for really annoying reasons I dont want to discuss.

Its a 20v Silvertop 4age with the AE101 4AGZE 8.9:0 forged & ceramic coated pistons with a TRD .8 mm HG making it 9.0:1 CR (and an entirely forged bottom end). I will be running 100% MegaSquirt.

Picked up a bunch of parts on my recent trip to New Zealand. Most exciting is a .60 A/R T28 off of a Pulsar GTI-R and a custom tubular manifold to go with it. This way I will not have to switch to a civic radiator, which was my old plan when I was going to use a FR log mani. The turbo came form an exchange motor at an engine importer/tuning shop. The turbo was recently enough rebuilt that the manifold gasket was still in great shape and completely reusable.

Anybody know where I can get a flange or adapter to get a hose arround the outlet? Like if its the same on any US T28s (I dont know of any).

JDM front bumper. Actually from an EE90 (same car but with a 4efe) but I think they came on AE92s also. Much more ventalation as you can see, and a lot lighter because there are really only brackets holding it up and no large metal bumper behind it. Couldn't really call it a bumper cover.

I also got an AE92 sway bar, and an AE101 rear brake conversion.

Was wondering if you guys would have any idea of the best place to tap into the cooling system for water cooling the turbo other than the TB hoses (since I dont have any). I was told just to tap into the coolant lines to and from the radiator, but I dont see how I could get the same flow out of that. Could be wrong.

I will have it running MegaSquirt before I put the turbo on, and I hope I will be comfortable enough with the tuning to do the install at one of the NE Crew meets.

Thanks for any input.

I was looking into the exact same route as the silver top and a corolla sedan(can't find too many wagons around here). PM bmcrace.com since you'll need a garrett T25 flange for that T28. So are you still using the factory ITB's too? Do the silvertops use different rods then the other 4ag blocks and where'd you get the 5'v forged pistons? This will be my next venture after my EG8/TTLS project.

Are you talking about the inlet that is the same? I was lucky enough to get that with the turbo. I would rather something from a wrecking yard than something custom made, this being a purely HMT project and all. Its what I'll probably have to do though..

Yep, factory ITBs and the stock intake box for now - it should hold up to 8 psi or maybe less if I am unlucky. At that pressure I would be making [what I consider to be] obscene power though, so I'm fine with it for now since I am just learning to tune and still building my car to handle the power.

The Silvertop has the same rods as the AE101 4agze and the late model AE92 4agze. All 4ags share the connecting rods of the GZE of their respective vintage except for the bluetops and the blacktops (blacktops have really thin, however forged and extremely balanced rods not at all suited for FI). All 4ags have the same awesome crank that can take just about whatever you throw at it, the BT one being balanced very precisely.

Pistons are unmolested, stock 4AGZE guys as they have been shown to only make contact in very extreme cases (timing belt related, or if I tried reving it to the 8700~ area and missed a shift or used really long duration cams, etc.). To put it in perspective the blacktop pistons dont even have valve recesses on the exhaust side.

Sweet ---- man. I'm going to be picking up a 4AGZE bottom end this winter for my 4AFTE. Can't wait to see updates on this project. Oh yeah, I would run some silicone or something around the seam on the plenium. I've heard that helps a bit.

Ya that is a good idea, would stop any potential leakage. I was thinking of putting straps arround it as well that I could tighten the hell out of, maybe get another few PSI out of it.

4AFTE ha, 4afe's a solid motor, I know When I went down to berminator's install I realized how easy all this was and how you could do it to a relatively 'peace of ---- motor' haha and get good results. After that I thaught it would have been really cool to turbo the 4af. I bet its a lot better than a D-series. At least its DOHC haha. How is it?

It's a fun motor. I haven't tuned it yet, nor have I taken it to a dyno, but it's a pretty stout engine.

I have heard a lot of people claim it is a better starting point for an all-out N/A build even. Cant remember exactly why,.
