this setup meaning the afc and 450s?...i use an smc500 and 450s (pretty much the same thing)...its decent, but swapping to obd1 and using uberdata is probably a better idea, although the afc will work fine for up to about 13 psi, you can go higher but its not really the best idea

ok...the d16y7 is not especially weak. all d-series pretty much suck. I have personally run 13 psi on a stock d16y7 with no problems for months. to re-phrase myself, the afc can be used for high boost, but its not the best route. many people would say not to go over 10-12 psi, i just tossed 13 psi out there. it all depends on how long you want it to last. 200 hp at the wheels is close to what many consider the limit for a reliable d-series. however, if you dont care how long it lasts, people have been known to get 300 hp out of stock d's, but it wont last forever.

hankmorgan - I'm also turboing my d16y7 although I'm gonna stick with 8 psi. I'm hoping for 170ish to the wheels with a T3 turbo and the hack.
If you get a good sized turbo (aka not a T25) you might be able to make that much HP to the wheels with 10 psi.
Don't worry about HP numbers for now, just worry about doing the job right and getting good parts. After it's all together and working (with your motor intact - this part is important) THEN worry about tuning and getting 200 whp.

Thanks again for your help guys. I was just shooting for 200 as a goal. Thats what I would like, about double what I have now, that would make it worth the money in my opinion. I am just in the what if phase now doing some pricing and planning. I will definately go with good parts and do it right. Well, as right as my low budget will alow anyway. What is a good price for an intercooler. Good meaning cheap but works.

You can get DSM intercoolers at a boneyard for like $35-$45. If you wanna get a nice one, buy a Tyrus intercooler. Tons of people on here have them (myself included), and they are like $250, but worth every penny for a nice front mount IC.
