1988/92 Turbo Tercel **UPDATED MAY 2 2007 w/PICS**

WEll, its almost done now. Im just waiting now on some supra 440s and a MAP sensor then its good to go. Should be interesting to see if its going to start and run on the tune thats aklready in my SDS... probably going to need to make some major adjustments. Also going to be interesting to see if the Volvo fuel pump is going to be up to the task.

----, I cant beleive I was originally going to use blow through carbs.

I revised the FMIC piping, meaning its all inside the engine compartment now, and since I had to take the headlights out to put some new bumper bolts in I figured I might as well use the wuad round lights from my old car. The rad is a civic half rad from somthing like a 1998 from the wreckers ($15) and I was able to use the stock rad hoses from the Toyota so that was nice. I did have to make the rad mounhts though, and I can verify they are 100% ghetto to the fullest.

Anyways, Il post some more pics when I get a chance, Il take some with the turbo & piping installed this weekend, I just wanted to paint the pipes to help prevent rust (yeah right) .. and I think it might make it look a little bit nicer.

Il probably upgrade the headlights with a set of OE projectors from an E30 BMW... and I want those yellow european bulbs for the low beams.

Theres also no way to fit a grill with those headlights..... oh well

hahahah that cooler would work awesome with snow on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pity we never get snow here.. only snows in the mountians.. we just get lots of hot days and bush fires :(

dont you think you should maybe put your cooler behind the bumper ???? :P might have a accident!

whats the laws on turbocharging non factory turbo cars???? here its illealge without a engineers cert but we do it anyway

Re: ALmost there - 1988 Tercel **pics**

#1 Snow SUCKS, its the reason all my ---- is rusted out, well its not snow so much as the salt they use on the roads.

BTW my wife is from Brisbane

I would have liked to put th IC behine the bumper but there really is no room there becasue the inlet and outlet are on the one side on the back. Oh well I think it looks ok where it is. But yeah, im going to have to be cautious with parking curbs, and well, anything much bigger than a pop can.

As far as the laws on turboing cars... I dont know, its probably illegal because Ive removed all the emissions stuff, but im not too worried about it really, Il just put a fake cat on it and the turbo is legaly the muffler.

Heres a pic of the freshly painted IC piping... will be installed on thursday

http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...65_93_full.jpg

I used steel wheel paint on them because i figured it would be the most durrable finish

Re: ALmost there - 1988 Tercel **pics**

I had an accident with the fmic behind the bumper support, but still got a tailpipe through the fmic :7

Laws here are basicly 'keep emissions clean", except for certain areas. California only allows approved parts to be bolted on, and emissions standards are almost impossible to meet. IIRC, laws in Canada suck balls too. In my state you just write on the regristration form that its kept in a certain county, as some counties here don't require any testing. :6

For your wideband o2 sensor controller, its probably the cheap one that VW's use (lsu or something). You have to check, because usually only 1 sensor is compatable with a particular WB controller. Other than that, the yota looks like it will be fun ;)

Mines a "split second" and its the one without numbers, just the 3 colour lights.. SO I take it Im going to need a "split second" o2 sensor than?

Awesome. I was thinking about doing something like that with my celica to let me fit in more charge pipe, and a cheep fix for the upper rad mount being bent :)

So are you just going to leave the headlights up all the time then?

I have just been debating on how to do my Celica. Probably going to get the FMIC and BOV from donald and get a used SAFC and some more Supre 440s

Re: ALmost there - 1988 Tercel **MORE PICS ADDED feb 22**

Finally got out to work on it again yesterday. I was hoping to get the injector driver all wired but had to go out to get some stuff so that kinda fucked it up. Plus I had to go to soem dinner thing for work, so I had toi leave early.

Its seems that somthing is fucked up with the fuel system so Im going to have to re do it. Im thinking Il get the pickup and stuff off a Volvo (same as the pump) and that should do it. I had to make this fucked up looking think out of some big brake line, but I think its not big enough or somthing.

At least the turbo is installed and the pipes are all in. Its basically just a little more wiring and its good to go.

THe engine is a 3E, 1.5L 12 valve, generally regarded as the most crapulent of all the Toyota engines.

Yeah, the cold sucks. The day I did most of the wiring it was probably -17/-18 outside, ------ brutal.

Woodgrain dash is the win.

I probably wont get to work on it for another week or two just beacuse Im moving, but hopefully Il be able to rent a decent shop (well split it anyways) near my new place. Im definantly looking forward to that.

3E is a bust to work on, I know I just swapped one for one in a 92 Tercel. Need any spare parts from it?

Owner changed the oil, left the oil cap off, now it burns oil. ???

Come by monday if you want it, I think we can swing it free.

I'll dig for the injectors too, sorry I've been lagging.

Re: 1988 Turbo Tercel **MORE PICS ADDED feb 22**

****FINALLY UP AND RUNNING****

I ended up using the SAFC hack after being met with limited sucsess with the SDS. I can see alot of things that are going to need to be improved, hot side charge pipe is interfering with the intake which is rubbing a hole in the coupler (probably going to clock it to solve this). Need to get a new temp sensor, extend tha air intake sensor wires. The huge donkey dick oil fitting is rearing its ugle head and is already leaking, probably just going to make a bracket for that..... untill I can get a stealthmode oil feed line.

Right now I get fuel cut at 5psi, so Im thinking check valve on tha MAP, but Im a little worried about how that will affect the SAFC. Ive also got a CEL but I think that has to do with the mnissing/damaged sensors. I also had to go to 315cc Celica Injecotrs since I couldnt cut back the 440s enough to have it idle anything near decent (comes with 155's factory).

Pics and vid to follow

Re: 1988/92 Turbo Tercel **UPDATED MAY 2 2007**

You can't use a check valve with your SAFC. The map sensor won't see boost and won't be able to control the injectors correctly. Are you sure it's a fuel cut?
