You also might have the wastegate actuator to tight. If the actuator is too tight it will never open. When it is set properly; when the rod is removed from the flapper stud (on the wastegate itself) it should only pull back half of the width of that wastegate flapper stud. My roomate and I ran into the same problem with his 242 turbo volvo. Just my $.02

A external gate would be nice. But, at 8psi I don't think it is necessary. People go external gates for more flow to eliminate boost creep. So many of these kits that are out there use external gates only, so most people are only exposed to are external gates (that comes with these kits) so thats all they know. my roomate is running 23 psi on his stock garrett internal gate with no problems. My grand national swap (internally gated) in my malibu runs 20 psi. I think if he was pushing more than 325+ hp than I would call it boost creep, and tell him to step up to an external gate. At this point I honestly think the actuator arm is just improperly adjusted.

**And Turbo4life, I am "O0"..... and I use mostly external gates except on my malibu and dd crx, so you can throw that comment out the window..............**

Anyways, hard2obtain hows the progress coming ??

Well I had some free time yesterday so I took some pics. I just wanted to give an example for adjusting internal wastegates. In theory, the internal gate is only actuated (moved) around 1/2 inch at most on a standard garrett. If it moves any farther the flapper inside opens too far and hits the housing. If the actuator arm is adjusted too tight, the wastegate will never open fully. This in the end leads to boost creep.

The first pic is of a internally gated wastedgate housing that has a properly adjusted wastegate actuator when its pulled of of the arm. Like I said above it should only move back half of the width of the stud. The second picture is of the adjusted actuator hooked onto the wastegate stud.

Right now i don't have a pic from the turbo and internal wastegate, but here is one of the actual setup

If the actuator is working fine, you changed the actuator itself, and still hitting 18psi - your WG line is ----, its not hooked up to the right place, or your gauge sucks balls and is broke like most of the nogs on this website. You should have a decent line from the manifold (after the throttle body) that is *not* tee'd from some other source that goes directly to the turbo WG. If nothing else, make sure the line isn't blocked - take it off, stick it in your mouth, and blow like a good tijuana hooker would.

Internal wastegate changed for another that fit's better, here is some pics of the Ching chong Turbo

This is the new wastegate, look the wastegate flapper, the position looks good

This is how it seems

Soon i'm going to install it again and see if the problem gone.
