well the new snail is a t3/t4 .48/.60 54trim, so i dont think that will be a problem...

My 14B is a little weak in the lower end of the power band, but I think that is from the low compression ratio from the Vitaras. I bet it will work fine and be a great first turbo project for your application.

ive had both mistubishi , and garrett turbos and whould have to say that id go with the t3 turbo over the 14b because the t3 imo is easier to work on. the parts are easier to find ( no j-pipe ). and they cost less to rebuild. im sure the power levels between the 2 are pretty close. the evo 4 through 8 turbos are all twin scroll thus making it even harder to work on. where-as the t3/t4 just bolts right up onto the same t3 flange.

The T3 would be a better choice for the long run as you can easily upgrade without changing much.I put a T3 .42 .48 on a locals CRX with a D16a6 and it works well.I owuld prefer bigger but it is just enough. We have it running 12-13psi right now and it moves pretty good.

your all missing the point he says he already has the 14b, and is wondering if he should get a a garrett .42 .48 instead of it. my answer is no you already got a turbo just use it till it is maxed out then upgrade (250ish hp). no use spending extra money if you dont have too.
