not welding wastegate hole on turbo if i were to weld this hole the wastegate should still work fine because it will still open and dump into the exhaust. this will be going on an 02 focus sohc. funny flange doesnt matter because im making my own manifold setup probably just make an adapter for stock manifold. when i entered the numbers on the tag into google i found a list and i thought it said this was a turbo II

Yea, the EGR hole which was dicussed earlier will be fine to weld. The best way to do it, is to put a steel pipe plug into it first, weld around it/fill whatever hole is left, then grind the weld back down so it is smooth.

A picture will help, but if it has the 2 hole swingvalve, then the swingvalve came from an 84-87 turbo I garrett, which will have a 2.25in exhaust flange. In 87 TII cars and 88+ Chrysler turbo cars, all the swingvalves were made with a single provision for an o2 sensor

cool, i didn't know the pre-85 had 2 port actuators hooked up to pneumatic ("mechanical") control.. btw i was wondering about this part:

the spring is rated at 16-20 psi only for the 2 port actuator, right? got any other figures for the 1 port can (85-up)? sorry, in case you feel this is a hijack lol.

Ok, now to get even more confusing.

In 84, they used a 2-port vacuum canister.

In 85-87 TI log turbos, they used a single vacuum port canister

In 86-88 TII cars, they used a "small can TII wastegate can"

In 89+ TII cars, they used a big can wastegate port

In 89+ TI cars, they used a mitsu turbo which used a small wastegate can.

There are other turbo cars that I am not mentioning, but we wont get into those for now lol.

The 84-87 TII cars could hold 15-20 lbs

The 86-88 TII cars could hold 12-15 minimum, after that they were considered unreliable, without bleeds.

In 89 TII+ 16-20

In 89 TI mitsus, 15-20, though boosting a mitsu to 15+ pounds doesn't help you a whole lot, they spool up fast but lose efficiency on Chrysler 8v at 4500+ rpms.

Not necessarily. I may have a 85-87 wastegate can. Another way you can do it, is by buying a threaded swingvalve end, and cut your current wastegate can arm. Then thread it, and adjust boost pressure by threading the arm in for "more" boost, and out for "less"

Naw, no need to tap for that vacuum prot. You can just tee a line directly from the manifold, there will always be aprot on the maifold that is used for the brake booster. You can tap a new port on there, or just tee into the brake booster, but hard to transition to such a large line to small i.d. vac line for the boost controller/WG can
