my VTEC kicks in before the car is at normal operating temps. it kicks in after 3 minutes of the car running, and that is not normal operating temperature. the car is a 99'si.

i don't hear it with the turbo anymore (VTEC) but i definately feel it and the rpms go up faster after vtec. i can see it also on the dyno result print out, after vtec the power goes way up. just get a good feel of the car and you'll be able to feel it. i know what you're saying. that louder exhaust tone kicking in real fast. it'll be harder to notice and feel also cause now your car is making way more power before vtec. i strongly doubt there's anything wrong w/your vtec.

I put a green LED light on my guage pod wired directly to the VTEC solenoid just next to my boost guage. This way I know for sure its working. Then again...I have a D-series so I can't hear it or hardly feel it anyways ::)

so if my guage is dancing around could this affect my vtec?or is there a sensor for the guage and a sensor for the ecu to read temp?

For whatever its worth, i think its a BAD idea to be revving the engine high enough for VTEC to crossover before the engine is warmed up.. not being very friendly to your pistons or valves

there are two sensors afaik. I dont have a diagram handy but im fairly certain.
the dinky ass looking one under the big rad hose by the dizzy is the gauge sensor, I believe the more substantial looking sensor next to it is for the ecu.

Unbolt your exhaust and take it for a spin. my money is on you hear and feel vtec.

well my exhaust broke tonight where i had it tacked together. and it was like night and day. i could hear vtec(i know its working now ::)) and the power gain was crazy. i guess i was just restricting(sp)the turbo 2 much. it runs way better now.
