1st: i realized after the fact that i shoulda started with the collector. doh.
2nd: oil filter relocation kit. oil drain in lower part of pic and pressure sending unit. 3rd: saab intercooler with piping. looks like it will be fitting pretty snug (esp with the civic radiator and fan. not pictured) |

Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
Fram sucks balls - go buy a Wix. :y
Good luck with that collector. :S |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
I must concur... Fram is garbage. Have cut open a few different ones ive used and the fram is a joke. The K&N ones are good, the mobile 1 ones are ok..... Wix as I remember were better than fram but not the K&N

Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
hows that welder working for you?
i was thinking of getting one, but right now i'm just leaving birdshit welds with my chinaman hf flux core welder. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
havent tried it yet. still no striker or hood. great deal though. everything for 90 bucks. with victor torch and guages.
yeah the collector is super gay on this one. first one though. and as for that fram. it was just there at the time to block oil from draining. never used it with the fresh motor. and its still isnt boosted so im not in too much danger. yet. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
purolator ftw

Wix/Pureolator (same thing) Or denso filters.
Attachment 19588 brush those joints well like a whipped nˇgger before you finish welding it to make em prettah... And its alot easier to weld the runners if you break it back apart right when you get the runners oriented for the collector. make sure you don't forget that and weld the collector or runners on. ;) |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
too late for that. this pic is a little outdated. ugh.
i wish i woulda done these things though. woulda made life a lot easier. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
lets see some updated pics im dyin to see that collector finished
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
oh man. i tried to oxy weld the collector to the pipes. they are two differnet kinds of metal i think.
even though i ordered ss on both, the collector is super thin walled metal. the heat was just blowing through the thin walled stuff and not flowing well at all. everything else was welding nicely. i dont think its going to work. back to the drawing board. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
post a pic and mail it to me.
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
sure. ill will get one out soon.
i just went to IMS and got a great deal on some metal they gave me this mild steel 1/2 inch plate for free that is big enough to make a whole extra flange out of. plus i got about 3.5 extra feet of ss pipe thats about 12g. so that should work better than what ive got on there. and im working at a whole new angle on the collector. ill post pics once im home. oh yeah almost forgot...i only paid 12 bucks for that piece of ss |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
is that a 4age?
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
yes rebuilt. lower comp. for turbo..... whenever that happens

Attachment 19488
Attachment 19489 Attachment 19490 took a while but here they are. my welding didnt work well. broke them off and still gonna tig the collector on. we'll see if it works. 16 gauge is super thin but im gonna support the collector. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
HHH you manifold has herps
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
na man don't use that. cut all that nasty out and weld patch pieces in.
honestly, what i would do is use a die grinder with a cutting disk <if you don't have a die grinder insert dremel with stacked, superglued fiberglass reinforced cutting disks here> to cut all that bullshit out. then cut your flanges flush with the good material of the runners instead of some bumfuck overlapping ----. then patch the gaps. just be sure to do it a section at a time so it doesn't fall apart lmao |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
^^^
pretty confusing explanation. are you saying basicly cut the runners in half. and rebuild it. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder

No Im saying cut out all the gay looking ---- on the collector in red. Then go back to your little green pedals you've sliced and cut those off.
THEN do your tacks with it butt welded (don't try that slip fit monstor gap gayness). Cut out afew pieces to fill your big gaps and you're tits. Attachment 19408 That make more since? |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
ooohhhh. much more sense. i got it. why is butt weld better than my overlap jobby job.
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
oh yeah and the lava rock weld is coming off for sure. i never planned on keeping that. hahah
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
your alternative is to bridge gigantic gaps using a method prone to overheating and warping everything in the process of using it. adding like 5-15min of work tops to make it less messy. plus itll make alot of the gaps you have now somewhat smaller and easier to bridge.
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
Damn you where off to a good start but now :-X.
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
hahah. you think....
i think it was the start that effed it all up. i started it backwards. ok so i grinded all the lava rock down. and started trimming the ends of the collector so it will butt up. this seems like it might be a little better. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
it looks like you have the oxygen turned up a little high
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
i have the little blue flame nice and small. thats how i was always told to do it. its probably more of a flame to metal distance problem.
but i was also told you shouldnt try to oxy on SS. so when i do my dp (mild steel) we'll see if its any better. i also ended up chopping the ends to butt up against each other and weld them that way. it seems to be fitting much nicer too. :D |

Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
now i want to fill up a 20 gallon trash bag and use that trail of brakekeen to light it trick.
If only your ears hadent exploded... that video could have been really awesome. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
almost finished pics coming soon.

Better than I thought it would turn out! Looks good.
|
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
thanks but i cant really take credit for it since my buddy welded it for me.
ill show my welds on the DP which is turning out pretty chunky...as far as welding goes |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
Heh, don't worry about it man.
That ---- just takes straight up practice. |
Re: yeah just bought an oxy acetylene welder
looks like my turbo project is going to be delayed due to a blown head gasket...
or a bad oil pump that caused a blown head gasket. or something. this sucks |
