Well, I finally started my shop.

1364square feet (only 1080 is shop) in a complex in burlington. i don't have much, but will be getting a small lathe, some drill presses and tooling this weekend... will also be getting a real bandsaw and air compressor and some more damn outlets in the next week probably. hopefully within the first year i will have a cnc, the limiting factor though is going to be the small door for it to fit thru so it will have to be quite small.

Looks like a great start! I heard hotrex is looking for a welder in case you need a partner :7

Don't let your door be the limiting factor for your CNC mill! Let only your wallet limit that, and get a bigger door :6

Just to think...it all runs off of one 120v strip oultet, a inverter and a car battery.

30 amps worth of 575v 3 phase. ;) the mill only draws 2.5 amps so i shouldn't outgrow it any time soon.

i have a 2 year lease, i'd move before i install a bigger door... if one of the other units with a larger door becomes available it might be an option... the other crappy thing is dock loading. i'd probably start with a smaller cnc anyhow (30x16 range).

i don't plan on doing car related stuff for the most part. i plan on using my background as a tool and die maker to keep myself busy with general maching/ fabrication and hopefully some light tooling repair stuff. the car stuff will just be filler work for when things are slow.

Best Homer voice "MMMMM Three Phase"

I bet I could get 3 phase in my pole barn as a know a few farmers around here have big mills. But I'm afraid to ask how much it would cost me :o .

Good luck

Hey HMT-VT! I'm just south in Bennington. Nice start on the shop. You should definatly get a CNC mill. We have a new HAAS vertical CNC mill at my college. I think it only cost them 28,000 roughly. Decent price for such a piece of equipment.

I think you will do better with being able to do both Auto and no-auto related work. Are you just in a large building with rows of shops?

yes, it is a complex of 4 buildings with about 15 units in each one, all less than 3000 square feet each. rent is $1200/month, insurance is $300/month and utilities are extra as well.

sorry guys, Burlington, ONTARIO, CANADA.

i'm not sure on the electrical labelling, my dad is the electrician who has wired most of the stuff up for me.
