Re: welding cast iron
cast iron relaly isn't hard. it just takes along time to do it right. pre/post heat control, peening, filler. if you take your time youll never have a problem.

Re: welding cast iron

Re: welding cast iron
Easy: You braze it instead. O0
Seriously. Not too many scenarios where I would pick welding over brazing for cast iron. Cast steel I would weld, no probs. Cast iron? Why bother? |
Re: welding cast iron
fluxcore + extra wire fed = cast iron welded and ready for duty

Re: welding cast iron
shoot yourself in the peen

Re: welding cast iron
Use the cast iron rod with a stick welder. The high nickel stuff is machinable afterwards, but expensive. Welding cast iron isn't bad at all, really.

Re: welding cast iron
Wellding cast iron is a breeze if done correctly wht the correct procedure and filler.
I find vermiculite amazing for slowly cooling cast iron. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermiculite It is the white stuff in potting soils and can be bought by the bag at most garden centers. Dont forget to preheat and peen!!! |

Nonsence! Eutectic Castolin makes amazing cast iron and speciality rods that you can even run on a cheap-o 220v AC stick welder, the xuper 2240 is a great cast iron rod. |
