Top mount HMT style

I wish i could say i came up with this but i seen it on Hondatech and was impressed by the idea.I think with a little more effort you could make it look nicer and then you have a top mount manifold for $50 or less.

I had that idea about a month ago, but then I looked in my EF engine bay and thought :l Maybe I'll give it a shot, just to see how it works.

Re: Top mount HMT style

that's some pretty cool ----, i wanna try that now.

i just got done makin and ugly ass adapter for std mani to t3 w/ a/c and it looks like i'll be doing some cross member trimming for engine movement and oil drain. the turbo almost sits on the cross memeber. well when that breaks or fucks up i'll try this

Probably slightly better than a log flow wise, I'm betting it doesn't touch true 4-1 collectors, since that's where most EL mani's make their flow difference.

Re: Top mount HMT style

damn..... i was actually going to try this a while back..with some DC headers but never got to it...

make a prototype, then make a jig out of it... and copy them over and over again... i mean come on... everyones got a pair of DC headers, materials shouldnt be more than $30

Re: Top mount HMT style

Dammit. I'm in the process of making that exact same thing. I already got the T3 flange and cut and cleaned up the bottom flange. I was hoping to get it out in the next week, but I can't find any 2" schedule bends 90* for less than $15 (at mcmaster). Using the standard 1.5" seamed like a waste since that is normally used for a single runner. What size did you use?

Nice job too. I give mad props for making it first. :y

2" elbows http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Stainless-Stee...QQcmdZViewItem

shipping maybe a lot thought

Re: Top mount HMT style

Do you know what the radius is on those? If they are the 3" ones, those are cheap from mcmaster, it's the 2" radius ones that get expensive.

Re: Top mount HMT style

haha... I've been having the same idea for years now. I wanted to do it when, or if, I ever get a 92+ Civic cause to actually make that for the EF's would be a bitch. EFs=buy weiracing adapter plate.

Semnos 03-22-2006 04:27 AM

Re: Top mount HMT style

Looks good, better then the one I made 3 years ago
I did that on my '87 crx....there weren't any top mounts back then.
I only did it, cause my header flange didn't arrive yet and I wanted to boost :P
I'll see if I can finr some pic's.
Mine sits lower though

I'm going to do this on my car this weekend - I have a TIG and hopefully have a better final product. O0

It's been done before, and it works really well.

Re: Top mount HMT style

use the long radius 90s, the short ones dont flow as well. I was thinking about trying this back in the day but i didnt think i had enough clearance topside.

That seller on ebay is good. I just picked up 22 of there 11/2" stainless elbows and they came in good time
they are reasonable for shipping aswell. I ended up paying around $ 6 cdn ea after shipping.

Re: Top mount HMT style

i can't believe that appeared on HT before i saw it here....i don't think that manifold would flow as well as a true top mount, but better than a log and for a fraction of the price!!

Static flow, no it won't. Dynamic flow, hrmmmm?

Notice how they cylinders are paired. Got divided turbine turbo?

Re: Top mount HMT style

I looked into doing this on my 3rd generation Accord, but sadly it wouldn't fit.

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3121/301717780dy.jpg

That thing is in the way. I would either have to cut it up, and rebuilt it (probably not worth it), or go all the way under it and bring the pipe back up in front of it.

Either way I would probably need to swap to a civic radiator (and almost definately remove my AC), and if I am doing that I might as well use a log manifold. A log manifold might even end up being cheaper in this situation due to using less pipe.

Edit: Accordepicenter, did you notice this problem on your Accord too?

Tom-Guy 03-25-2006 04:09 AM

Re: Top mount HMT style

I always drop the front crossmember when doing clutches or engine swaps on Accords. It's just plain easier that way.
