so theres a difference between the smiley/mitec and the hf chicago electric? I figured they were the same welders

 

They are very different. The Harbor Freight is scratch start.

smiley, mitec, chirey or something like. Pretty sure their all the exact same thing. Just a different name on it. Hell I'm pretty sure someone pulled the decal off of theirs and it said one of those names on it. lol. They run right around the 4-600 range for the arc/tig/plasma units.

 

is that all they make now? I dont really wanna spend 600 for a plasma cutter and all. I'd get the miller maxstar at that point. I'm guessing scratch start isnt the greatest thing in the world.. Should i spend my money elsewhere, or will i be satisfied with a hf tig for chargepipes and maybe a manifold or two?

Just get the HF if you don't want all that other stuff. Why wouldn't you want a plasma cutter? Make your own flanges..gets rid of hot cars easier... I'm gonna rock the HF with a ps pedal and save my money for other things. Check out the guy who bought one and posted some pics of his beads he laid down. If all you want to do is what you listed just get a MIG.
