some dsm work, what would you charge for this?

well, i had a 98 eagle talon in the shop this week and did a bit of work.

i supplied materials for the downpipe and dump tube (both stainless). the customer provided material/couplers for the intercooler piping only and the elbow for the cold side of the turbo. let me know what you would charge for this work...

the turbo is some retarded gt35 cold side, dsm hotside with a 2.5" v-band for the dp and a v-band for a 44mm dump right next to it. customer wanted a 3" dp with almost no room to work with. even before i started on the dp, i had to modify the oil dip stick tube to make room for the wastegate. normally it sticks straight forward:

here is the solution for the weird transition from 2.5" v-band to 3" dp in a tight space with no room for a normal 3" bend.

2.5" schedule 10 tight radius elbow... my new favorite fab item! these things will save tons of time and headaches with pie cuts... plus they will not crack. this is the second time i've used one and the outside diameter almost matches perfectly to 3" tube. the id matches perfectly to a racing solutions v-band flange... (thanks adam). the customer had brought a vibrant v-band, and although it is a nice piece, the clamp on it was way too big to fit the v-band on the turbine housing of the hybrid turbo... also, the flange didn't match the flange either...

here is the dp welded up:

here is the wastegate clearance:

here is the dumptube clearance for the hot side charge piping:

next i mounted the intercooler, which wasn't too bad. i just made a couple brackets that allow for some adjustability with the ic:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC00085.jpg

cold side charge piping was next, but first i had to weld a cast elbow on the compressor housing of the turbo:

then i had to modify the magnus intake manifold to fit a mustang 75mm tb. it wasn't too bad, just made a plain flange, cut the old one off and weld the new one on:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC00094.jpg

then the tb itself had to have a little cover plate made for the iacv and a vacuum tube on the pipe side had to me removed and plugged:

last was the cold side charge piping. i had to make a bung for the mass air flow sensor, but everything else was provided. i also had to add beads around the ends of all charge piping at the customer's request since i don't have a bead roller.

That's an awesome deal. I'm sure some people would pay over $1000 for all that work.

Re: some dsm work, what would you charge for this?

I would say $850. You're probably out $150 in materials. That leaves you $700 for around 6-9 hours actual welding fabbing work. Not including time to think, dissasemble everything, and taking up your space.
GJ on the charge pipe. I like the penitration on that aluminum O0

At $600 you're grossly screwing yourself. Charge like you know you're worth. You're worth alot more than that. At $1000+ He's getting a fair price, but you're not exactly giving hiim a reason to tell his gay cronies about the good deal he got.

You could get away with a grand and a half I bet. The fab shops around here sure would and their welds wouldn't be as pretty.

That looks awesome man. And I for one think that is REALLY ------' cool that you did all that top notch work, and STILL charged a VERY reasonable price. Every one else is saying charge him more, charge him more, but they must have forgot what kinda smile it puts on your face when someone does some really nice work for you and then doesn't rip you a new ------- in the process. He might not be a rich prick. He might be a hard working guy who has to scratch and scrape for every penny in order to HAVE something nice like that. I have a friend who helped me out ALOT when I turbocharged my car. I didn't have a grand to give him at that time, but I've shot him a few bucks here and there, and when he needs something he knows I'll try my best to help him out. The bottom line is...he wasn't doing it to make a bunch of money or anything. He did it because it's what he enjoys doing, and he's a top-notch guy(and great friend) who likes to help ppl out. I think we can say the same thing about you. I wish there were more ppl like you and my friend out there, instead of greedy assholes who ALWAYS consider $$$ the bottom line...
