Yup. But AWS and WABO wont accept non matching filler metal and base metal. But I sometime use SS on MS for personal things.

last time I checked mild steel isnt allowed anywhere in the food industry (stainless only 316) and in that case I ensure that all welds are 100 %perfect I have about 100 hours of work in total with food work all has passed with flying colors

and above all it is a mild steel downpipe a pipeline for oil industry or oxygen tube for hospital in the case here none of that is needed....

and I am right about what I said,
In the food industry I ensure everything is 100% perfect as I can possibly get it, I am also getting paid 100$ an hour for the work so I can take over 1 hour to make a 12" long weld and fully justify it.

Ok so you welded pipe for that this is a downpipe that doesnt have to pass that sorta stuff, when my customer tells me it has to pass certain things I will do the work required to make it pass and the price goes up as so...

The work I did for food industry was for a local ice cream maker at my old shop,
I was welding up 316 deviders for the ice cream tubs for metropolitans I did about 100 of these and got well paid
I had to do everything not just sit on my *** and weld I had to do all fab fitting everything had these not had to pass so many tests they and I just fired them out like stainless manifolds they still would have taken 2 hours each
