Re: Signed Up For Welding Classes....I Be Fabbin'

I started my first welding class this semester at a community college esteemed for their welding courses. Well, in all honesty, i've started my first welding, period, this semester. I've never touched a welder before now and I'm scared shitless. The way the school works is that easier stuff like MIG is only available during the fall. Meanwhile a bit more advanced (still 100 lvl tho) classes like TIG are only available during the spring. You can probably imagine why I'm nervous. I'm the only one in the class without previous welding experience and the ---- is difficult to pick up. Groove welding while keeping a consistant puddle, I can do well enough to pass. However, Fillet welding a T joint? ---- that ----. I'm doomed. Must admit though, enjoy the class immensely and the instructor gives my dumb ass special attention.

Oh and the PACT thing really doesn't sound anything different than what a bank does. You put money in, government uses it to invest and raise money for themselves, then they pay you interest. Holy ----, it is exactly like a BANK! Does that mean my tax dollars are going to banks now toooooo?! That kid is retarded.

;)
Here you just jump in on whatever the entire group is doing that semister. Which is gmaw now & gtaw later this semister. No worries fysh. Took me ALOT of practice to get my first couple of T joints down. Maybe not so many days, but lots & lots of hours!

You think doing groove welds is fun. Wait till you do it on pipe! LoL! Fun ----! Lotta people find walking the cup easier on groove welds like that. I'm not looking forward to doing gtaw vertical up & down, or out of position. My plan is to bring tons of scrap home & practice 10-12 hours a day.

One thing that helped me is to GET COMFORTABLE! If you have too get you some scrap & weld the ---- to your booth so you can lean against it. That way you don't wiggle around as much.

Yeah, there's something about telling a future bossman, "Bitch, do you know who I am?" - or the polite version thereof - that lets him know where on the food chain you stand. ;)
