Good stuff here. I spent 8 grand on welding school and worked out in the field for 10 monthes. Then hated going to work everyday, driving home in the sun after heli-arc welding all day, not fun. Then blowing out my nose full of crap, not fun at all. Now I pay welders to do it for me. Every once and a while I will break out the tig and do something on my Honda.
My shop doesn't give anything away, or low prices, or we couldn't keep the doors open.

I have been talking to ian about this manifold and the only problem is with the Wg.I believe the jig I use to make these was bent and Ian has been in contack with me about this.

I'm not particularly one for internet argueing... and Chuck's quality, as can be seen by the two manifolds above, has improved a ton over a couple years span. I was just making an example to prove Engloid's point... at Chuck's expense unfortunatly. I don't want to **** off Chuck or anything. We both just keep on doing our things on our respective sides of the country in our little niche industry and try to stay respective of one and other.

One thing I have noticed is that it is much easier when you are still kinda new at making manifolds. I have not been doing it very long and even in the short span of time I have gotten quite a bit better. And getting better doesn't seem to have any corolation with doing it faster. It seems as I get better it takes longer to complete the same job as my standards are getting higher. Makes it even herader to keep the price down for the things I make.
But it is still fun and I have a normal full time job so I keep doing it.

randy, until you hire a few guys to do the first 2 processes and all you do is tig weld all day long.

thats were the money is at. my learning curve is high, and in the last few months the quality of my welds and fnished product is thru the roof. so i hope to cash in on that,. as a singular person it is very hard, you need to cut, gring, bevel.rep fit .and tack a manifold together, before you an root pass it, let it cool then finish pass it.

its crazy. very hardfor one person to do efficiently. i obviously learned the hard way, and am now going at it from a different professional angle and wil make a impact on this market.

I'm pretty sure you meant 309L. I'd suggest that you get some 316 and try it. It welds a lot better. I'd still stick with 309L for the carbon to stainless welds though.

Also...I typically use more amps on the fill and cap passes than on the root..but that doesn't mean that you can't successfully do it otherwise.
I use more argon flow, but I probably move a bit faster travel speed than most.
