Ohh, that jegs kit looks like it fits pretty well, how much did you have to do to get it to fit like that?

BTW, from what I can figure out, It doesn't really matter if the bars tie into the frame. If you have a side impact bar run right along the floor between the A pillar bar abd B pillar bar, and a cross bar along the floor on the hoop (along with any other needed bars) then the car can deform as much as it wants to. The goal of a cage is to do exactly that, build a cage around the driver/passenger to prevent intrusions. Mounting points have more to do with the side effect of a cage, which is increasing chassis stiffness.

I've been working on a design for my car for awhile now. My plan is to have a impact bar about 1" off the floor, plus nascar style side impact protection. My car is being built for NASA/SCCA so my hoop must have a diagonal, and I'll double that into an X. The harness bar will be like yours, but I want to add a bar that will cross the tunnel about 1/2" above it. The A pillar bars will be reinforced to the upper windshield bar and hoop with tube diagonals 8-12" from the intersects. The seat will be mounted to the cage, instead of the floorpan. There will also be a cross bar under the dash, which I'll use to mount my pedals and stering column. The rear braces will be tied into a cross bar between the strut towers, and I may put an X brace in there as well, because I am well under minimum weight spec as is.
