real home made turbo???
why bother? If you want a SC there are cars out there that had them factory, just pillage one from the junkyard. I think some pontiac bonnevilles and grand prixs had them, for that matter. All you're doing is reinventing the wheel.
adding a factory supercharger would be better, but A LOT more work. you still have to screw around with belts, and depending on your your engine configuration you would probably have to make a new intake manifold which is 10x as difficult. not to mention that it makes it more expensive. nothing wrong with reinventing the wheel for less

GM went a little crazy in 96-99 with the supercharger on their 3800 vehicles...
yes....you are probably screwed if you are talking about making your own intake manifold to fit a junkyard supercharger. But using a turbo/pulley contraption, requires no manifold, so that just depends on how creative and you are and how good you are at fabrication.

If you're turning a turbo into a belt driven charger then what the hell is the difference in manifolds? Using a factory supercharger would be no different than your homebrew thing. And what's stopping you from using belts, since you're adding a pulley..
do you have any sort of clue what you're talking about? the only superchargers i've seen on cars that you would find in a junkyard are roots style chargers that pretty much replace the entire upper plenum
thats why they said take a turbo and make it a centrifugal supercharger so that it works like a procharger would...but i dont think thats wat the creator of this thread was even talkin about....besides why would you want to other than just to be creative.
The inertia of a 4:1 gear step up will break off the turbo shaft. Look at a procharger, they use a sprung hub and a MUCH larger shaft to help absorb the impact from the compressor inertia so it doesnt shear off. It might work for a few PSI, but if thats all your looking for a junkyard brewed turbo setup would be cheaper and easier.
