to get 4:1 or somethin higher than 1 to 1 you just use a pulley that's got a diameter 1/4 the size of the crank pulley. I've thought about this before too. I wanna get a junk turbo and try it to see how it works out

A year or two ago, a guy tried what bukkake is talking about, and posted it on here. IIRC, it was on a Maxima.

find out what rpm the alternator spins at and some calculations ull find out what size pulleys ull need to get those rpms..

its doable
the gear reduction isn't possible. the pulley would be too small

The cold side of the turbo would need to be pretty big. For example, if your crank pulley were 6" in diameter and the pulley you put on the turbo was 1" diameter the turbo would spin @ 42,000 rpm with the motor @ 7,000 rpm. You need a turbo that would push alot of air at such a low speed. However, you wouldn't have to worry about not being able to spool the big thing because it's belt driven. I've been toying around with this idea for awhile. You would need to make a housing that held a bearing/bushing on the end of the turbo's shaft. Otherwise the belt tension would bend/bind the shaft.

i've got a pretty solid design and parts list needed to make up one of these. im ready to give it a go, unfortunalty i am seperated from my car until cristmas (out of the country). the guy with the maxima did most of the grunt work in actually proving it would work for about 5 psi. the only problem is that all his parts were machined. most people dont have access to that ability. I think ive got it figured out pretty well to make it with no machining and very little welding. the only thing that is bugging me is i need to get the turbo to make measurements. actually the only important measurement im missing is the quill diameter and thread pattern of the turbo shaft (t3), so if anyone knows or wants to make a measurement please let me know. Also the maxima, had its belts to the side, which made it so much easier. Mine has the belts in the front and not nearly enough clearance to run it like his. But this actually helped me. I'm going to run a pulley off my serpentine belt, which will be turn another pulley. this is the pully that will will turn the turbo. this is good because i can put the turbo where i have space for it and just run a belt to connect it. The best part of it is the reduction ability it gives you: it allows you to spin the turbo as fast as you want (bearing limited). lets say your crank is 6" and the pully running off the serpentine belt is 1", at 6K the serpentine pully is turning at 36K. if you make the pulley that is bieng turned by the serpentine pully lets say 4" then you now have a 4" pully turning at 36K. this is the one that attatches to pulley on the turbo. if the pully on the turbo is 1", this means that your turbo will be spinning at 144,000 rpms. all you have to do is change that one pully size and you can get it to spin as fast as a real turbo, but i wouldnt recommend it. if you want uberboost, stick to real turbo. ill be sticking to 5 psi max so i would need any where near that much of a reduction, but you get the point. The turbo will not be effecient by any means. but you will get some boost as it has proven by that guys maxima (unless he was lying, which i doubt). The only hard part will be mounting them, but im sure if i can make it work, i can mount it. And i might be wrong but with this set up, (cetrifugal supercahrger) you still have to spool up, so its not instant boost. If you have any theories about why it wont work, let me know b/c i got nothing but time to work on the design until i can attempt it. and if anyone could get that measurement for me that would be great. i know the shaft dials in at .39" but i need to quill diameter (part that screws on the compressor). Ive made the calculations for it bieng .37", .31", and .27", bt would like to know for sure. this diameter will determine just how hard this whole thing will be, b/c it affects bearing size, which affects housing size, etc - its all built around that.

sounds mad gay to me.
