Posted my block today...
Yep... posted my block today. Didn't buy a kit, got some T6 aluminum rod, threaded it myself. Worked pretty good, cept the lock was a pain to get the threads to start... Only one side is JB'ed cuz the damn ---- never hardens fast enough, so I will JB the other side tomorrow. Dont mind the dirty ass cyl's...
Sorry for the crappy pic quality... damn camera is old doesnt like to focus well anymore. https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b...k2ed/post1.jpg https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b...k2ed/post3.jpg https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b...k2ed/post2.jpg https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b...k2ed/post4.jpg |
Re: Posted my block today...
keep an eye on them periodically...ive had a few crack the jb over time (but not leak since i put rtv on the threads)...i must be mixing this ---- poorly lol

Re: Posted my block today...
Yeah I was going to... JB always acts funny for me... if it doesnt hold I have some stuff at work that will... or I will just bring it in and get them welded at work. I love working at a steel manufacturing plant, I can get anything from steel to mach work.

Re: Posted my block today...
I think endyn says to torque them to like 2inch lbs. basicly just touch the sleeve and stop.

oh well, live and learn ;D |
Re: Posted my block today...
is it possible to post on both sides?
what if you torqued them to like 10 ft lbs (or whatever), and then have it machined, hence the extra torque would hold in place better. Anyone done that? |

Re: Posted my block today...
BTW crush, how much was the rod compared to buying the kit? i thought about doing it that way but decided to just get the kit
|
Re: Posted my block today...
im going to do this to my LS block, but i dunno If i wanna buy teh rod of not, for teh effort of driving to teh metal shop getting teh rod, going back out to my machine show which is a half hour away and doing all teh work... seems worth it just to buy the kit
|
Re: Posted my block today...
i got my kit in two days from endyn, im only like a state and a half away from em tho
it was worth it for me because i didnt have the time to wait |

definitely doing this to my backup block, but one question... why does the kit come with 12 posts? do you put 3 posts per cylinder?

Re: Posted my block today...
damn homes, I DID read the thread. I just misread that part. I ALSO read endyn's site that said they use 3 posts placed on 3 different axis'. No need to get hostile about it. Also, we have a shitload of stainless threaded rod at work. what if I used that? It's stainless so it should be ok with the coolant right? Or does the stainless rod/ aluminum block part make it not work? I remember learning something about certain metals making others rust when coming in contact with each other in body shop, just don't remember which metals. Just asking. If it will work and anyone wants some posts, let me know. I'll let you have em, just pay shipping. We throw away scrap anyway.

Re: Posted my block today...
ok, makes perfect sense. We have aluminum rod at work too... I work in a machine shop, but I used to be the steel cutter so I know where, and what everything is. I'm actually still sort of training the new guy. I love the weekends! taking a throttle body on sunday to bore out, just to see how it turns out.

Re: Posted my block today...
I'll prolly just throw some aluminum rod on a lathe and thread it quick, and then part it off a little long. Thanks for clearing that up though. And for not being a dick about it like some people can be.
