instead of just moving the flange sideways, why not make the square tube sideways to match the flange rather than having it come straight out and the flange cocked

No really, all it means is "I'M NOT HOTREX THE SHIPPING BARON". It's not what ccfab stands for, it's what it doesn't stand for that allows Josh to reinvent himself.

i didnt rotate the box because if the box is the proper size, you can rotate the flange and still have a smooth entry into the turbo. its just easier.

Actually one question, Other then a Regulator, Bottle and gas line, is anything else needed for this unit.

It has thumb control right. I was about to bid on a HF Tig but they don't have temp control. I could add a potentiometer myself with a pedal, but it's still a HF Tig.

reguator, bottle, tungsten 1/4inch to quick disconnect fittinf for the plamsa reg to air compressor and a cord cap.

You get a few Weldcraft tips, collets, and ceramic cups, but trot your ass down to the local welding supply and get yourself fully equipped.

Make sure to get a number of tungsten electrodes - five or six for your first time out when you'll be dipping the electrode a bit in the weld puddle and having to grind them away to nothing until you get the hang of it. I got three each in 1/16th, 1/8th, and 3/16th, because I've some TIG experience, but it's been a couple of years so I'll probably have to re-up quick on the size I use most at first until my hand steadies.

Don't forget stupid piddly ---- like mask, and those delicate, thin leather gloves. You get no splatter with TIG, so you only need something thick enough to protect you from touching hot metal, and to protect you from sunburn. On the topic of sunburn/welder's burn, I welded my first log manifold in a short sleeve t shirt, and with pale Irish skin I had some moderate blistering of my lower right bicep from a good 45 minutes worth of welding. It's not like sunlight, there's nasty doses of UV-C and suchlike, will leave you prone to skin cancer quicker than laying in the sun four hours a day your whole life.

If you want to work with the "usual" 304/316 varieties of stainless, to make a manifold, which seems to be everyone's bias... get 308 filler. And steer away from the 316, as it is more prone to corrosion over the long run, and avoid 304L or 316L - L meaning low carbon and not as good for high temps. Go for regular alloy, or if you can find it xxxH, preferrably in 304.

I like to have about 4 ounces of good medium quality bourbon on a mostly empty stomache before welding. Not enough to phaze me, but enough to steady my hand which shakes a bit due to hypoglycemia. Sure beats snacking regularly, like the doctor tells me to. ------- AMA witchdoctors.

I have to admit it. the welds look verry good. But the manifold design Sucks ass. I can't see why anyone would want to run the log manifold. :-X

I've hit 404 whp on 92 pump with log manifolds in B-series applications. At some point they start to effect balanced flow through the engine's cylinders, but have very minimal effect on actual knock limit - which is all that matters. hp per psi is bullshit anyway, the turbo still flows XXX hp worth of air regardless of what psi it occurs at... just crank the boost up, tune it in, and get on with handing out some ass already, and stop with the homosexual hp/psi and dyno sheet numbers game...

Or at least, that's how I see it.

at what psi ? what size turbo? what rpm? how was your midrange?

So before you get all defensive, all im saying is that they don't flow as good as a equal runner manifold. Especially the one that he just made, where the collector is next to runner 3&4.

when broke ass ------ wanna keep a/c you get what u see. obviously it wont flow as well as a eq length mani but, it will get the job done. if guys are keeping a/c they obviously arent shooting for the moon hp wise.

it wont even flow as good as a regular log manifold (non a/c) that you make. I guess quantity over quallity (design not welding) is where you are going.

These KIDS have no money and want a turbo and keep A/C. Their idea of expensive is $200. This will be more than adequate and will let these fairies keep the A/C.

Dunno, I wasn't at the dyno when Wes was cranking on the boost controller, but boost cut is set at 22 psi, so he can be nice n safe n stuff n things.

Turbo is an eGay Super T70. It's mis-sized, too big and laggy, no boost until 4500-4800 rpms. Engine revs to 9300. Very peaky, if the gearbox were in better repair allowing better shifting, it would be a bit better to drive.

I'm not arguing flow or anything, just expediency. Balls and brains get you further than budget. I prefer the merge collector items, myself, but if baby jesus give us logs we try to make as much goddamn power with them as we can.

Jcushing 12-18-2005 09:12 AM

Re: pissed a the woman, so i pulled an all niter. pics*

im not gonna argue anythig either other than that HP/psi is as important as you make it. on the average stock block turbo setup, the HP limit is the breaking point of the motor not boost pressure so it is ok to say just turn up the boost to make more power. However a turbo only flows so much air per psi (ie from the compressor map) and the amount of power you make from that air is important when you start pushing the limits more. its kinda like saying yeah you have a stock crx HF exhaust but just turn the boost up to make up for it.

now a log is what it is. saying a log manifold flows bad is like calling a retard stupid. its there just to get a turbo on your car, save space, not cost alot, and be relatively indestructable. if your thinking your gonna get alot of flow out of a log your fooling yourself. now you want A/C AND a turbo AND a inexpensive maniold. its obvious your gonna have to sacrafice something and its gonna be flow.

:y to the poster for makin a A/C compatible mani
::) to anyone hating on the manifold
:3 to using the FAB forum as a classified section

Strange, most of the bigger powwr compressors are at a greater than 45 degree upward tilt - meaning maxxing hp per psi will run you off the map quicker than cranking the hell out of the boost.

I mean, just look at everything not-Honduh, like the guys who design turbochargers do.

thats because they are designed to run at higher pressure ratios

The point of a log manifold is to be cheap, not good. HMT was founded by using manifolds that were designed for motors that made like 75 hp. If you don't like it get the ---- out

My HF mani will outflow that log by 2x.

Problem with the log is that you lose all the ------- heat to those tight ass bends. He's right, logs flows like my ------- after mexican food - shitty.

Re: pissed a the woman, so i pulled an all niter. pics*

Please explain how the hf manifold with its ports barely able to fit your pinky finger will be able to out flow a log.... Last time I checked there is no "collector" on the hf manifold, it just intrudes all exhaust gasses to a big hole, sounds pretty simular to a log to me....

sgoertz 12-20-2005 10:22 PM

Re: pissed a the woman, so i pulled an all niter. pics*

Also when you say this ac long will produce less power over the non ac,
The only real power you will be losing is from having the ac on the car, not from the turbo flange being kicked at an angle, by having the flange kicked at an angle you are talking about a whopping 2% less power, at 400whp 2% is 8hp, note this is turbo you can easily compesate for the small losses with one more turn of the boost controller ::)
