paper cutout of collector cut?

I cant find the picture somebody made to use as a template for a collector cut, anyone have it or know where it is?

Re: paper cutout of collector cut?

it wasnt a collector cut, it was how to cut a pipe to be flat when placed against another pipe at a certian angle. it called tube coping.
and here it is (look in the stickies)

Re: paper cutout of collector cut?

what's the particulars of your collector... I can have it drawn up in Auto-Cad here quickly and post you the unfolded shapes...

for instance....

this one is for a 38mm OD tube at a 20º inclination to the perpendicular of the flange. 4 of them obviously...

You can use this and just scale to match for any diameter tube, but the shape will change if the inclinations needs to change...

Re: paper cutout of collector cut?

i'm sorry, but that paper cut out is going to make for an awful lot of waste for whoever uses it. anyone with half a brain will realize it is going to make the collector come down to a single point like a 4 sided pyramid and have to cut the end off it for the port to match the turbo flange. this might work if you have a circular port on the turbo flange you are using, but otherwise it isn't going to be much help. i'm working on a writeup for an alternative way to make them that works for me.

LOL I was like "how could this be useful if the tube is circle"... I think I need to sleep a bit...

Re: paper cutout of collector cut?

hmmm well ok.... how's this then...
https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2217...6d553f2c_o.jpg

obviously just as useless to someone that might have a turbo with a round hole... ;D

a combination of 2 inclinations to form an oval port that will match a T25-T28 Flange. in this case 15º and 11º

Pipe Diameter is 38mm
https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3120...3a685029_o.jpg

well ok not exactly oval, but damn near close enough to be perfect.

the cutouts width is still 119.7 mm obviously....

I've never used it. I just happen to come across the same thread from H-T. I have no patient in making collectors. That is why people like you are around to make it for me......

^^^ atleast that cutout compensates for the angle required on the bottom of the pipe. i'd like to see someone test this.

You could make me a collector with it ;D

Thanks captain obvious. Likewise it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize all you need to do is move it towards the end of a pipe to not waste the pipe. I'm also not a fan of making the merged end perfect until after welding - 1/4" of waste at most isn't enough to cry about...at least for the volume HMT viewers will be doing. Any way you look at it, there will be some waste.
