One off Single turbo Dakota.

7 Attachment(s)
Hey, new here...looking forward to sharing a few words with some peeps on here.

Anyways, just finished up my turbo system for my 1996 dodge dakota. Started from scratch and made a pretty good system. Theres a few things I would do different next time. Like using stainless for the log instead of aluminzed. That ---- sucks to weld.

System utilizes a Garret t04e turbo charger, 1.00 turbine, and .70 compressor
tial 38mm wastegate
Blitz bov
bar/plate intercooler made to size
Aeromotive digital FMU and inline booster for the fuel control.

Anyways heres a few boner poppers.

Re: One off Single turbo Dakota.

Wow, I really like the set up. If the turbo is not extremely braced expect it to break the manifold. I see tons of cars at the local shop with thin wall manifolds that all fall apart from lack of bracing.

Nice work. Got any ET's?

Re: One off Single turbo Dakota.

I have the the turbo flange and the header flanges braces together. But plan on making another brace for the cold side to connect to the alternator bracket.

No et's yet I have to put in a new tranny. I blew the old tranny when I was running my paxton on it. Ran 13.2@106 with the supercharger, pulling 2.2 60 foots!!. hehe

Also there was a problem with the turbo so I have to send that back as well. When it gets hot it is locking up. Its like its not alowing for heat expansion. Ive heard that on some garrett journal bearings they installed the bearing backwords.

Looks pretty badass. You should paint the IC and the charge piping that can been seen flat black so it doesn't stick out so much. Either way it's a clean looking setup.

this is the best thread I've seen in awhile, I love seeing something different. And I'm especially digging the darth vader theme.

Good work man....

Thank you for the kind words.

My next project will be another Dakota. This one will be a 390 stroker, TKO600, and twin gt28r's mounted in the bed. Now that will be different. O0

Re: One off Single turbo Dakota.

8 gt28r's arent big enough for a 390 stroker.

No yet. But im expecting 100 more hp at 10psi over the supercharger. So a good guess would be 450hp/500tq

Whoops! your right I still got turbo compacts stuck in my head.

Twin t3/60-1's should do a much better job. and of course a low turbine A/R to get those things spooling in the back. ;D

you could be harcore like bigdaddyvtechmonsterdudebrahgnarkill and paint your intercooler black where its visable and leave it bare behind the bumper for maximum cooling.

looks titts though

Re: One off Single turbo Dakota.

I like the all black look. I'm assuming you have more than just the stock suspension?

BTW for a twin turbo 6.4 doing t3/60-1's, I wouldn't be happy with less than 950whp. On pump gas. Twin 57trims would more than do it, and if spool isn't that important, full t04e's with divided .70 turbines would still hit full boost by 3-3500 rpm. They would also be cheap as ----, enough to get other cool ---- like meth injection.

This is the fab section. Go be retarded elsewhere.

Nice looking set-up. Always like to see an non-sport-compact project.

2 inch drop spindles. 2 inch drop hangers, Leaf clamp on front of leap spring, and Slapper bars snubbed on the spring eye. Its a proven old school leaf spring setup...But ill be putting a triangulated 4-link in the near future.

ford f250 front springs are pretty stiff.. also long and cheap if you want to make an ultra squatable rear setup.

You must not know much about rear suspension setup. You never want the rear to "squat." When your rear end squats you are loosing push of the tires to the ground. You actually want the rear end to go up during acceleration. This indicates push and maximum traction.

Now for the front you want a soft suspension...as soft as possible but still able to hold the wieght of the vehicle. A soft spring and shock allows the front end to lift up freely to allow transfer of weight to the rear. To stiff of a shock or spring and youll get bounce...or worse, tire lift.

I have rear and front lift with this suspesion setup. And almost zero front end bounce. I was pulling 2.0 60's during 1/8 mile runs with M/T ET streets. It wasnt spinning one bit...but the truck had absolutly no low end. With the manifold and cam im running its a 3k powerband, and I had the stock stall converter.

But it will be faster. Blower takes about 10hp to make 1 pis. 10psi=100 hp draw.

10psi with turbo=0hp draw. ;D

love it, im actually trying to get a setup like this for my 3.9 L ram 5 speed. im actually going to make my manifolds myself and want my manifold similar to yours. do you run a cat. also where do you run your oil line for the turbo since the 3.9 is a 318 -2 cylinders
thanks

No cat or muffler. 3" turbo back, dumped before rear axle. Plan to go with 4" sooner or later but gotta find room to route it.

The oil pressure line is ran of the oil pressure sendor. Its in the back behind the manifold next to the dizzy.

you mean that black piece that goes to the gauge (i think)
hows the internal setup in your block, is it stock or built(sorry for all the questions but you basically have the same motor as me so...)

do you think ill have a problem with fuel delivery, i'm going cheap and don't really want to spend that much for a fmu

im still getting parts together hope to start soon

Yeah thats the peice, Its a 1/8" npt in the block. Get a T and t it off into the oil feed line. Youll need fuel managment. When I was supercharged I was running a 12:1fmu and ford 24# injectors and a MSD high pressure inline fuel pump. You wont last more than 2 secs with running the stock fuel system

My internals are stock. Just some felpro 1008 head gaskets, New bolts, New timing chain, 6000rpm valve springs, I also have a M1 intake, and a 800cfm throttle body.

Look at mustang boards and ebay. I got my vortech fmu for 100bucks and a injectors for another 100 and the MSD fuel pump for another 100 or so.

Add some fuel injection hose, some hose barbs, and some clamps and you got your self a 350 dollar fuel system.
