Yo, so I was going to buy some axle blocks for the rear of my frame, but they cost like $100.00 and I don't have that kind of money to spend on something like that. So I decided to try to make my own.
Here's what the real thing looks like, usually CNC machined out of steel. Attachment 23146 Basically they are axle blocks that have a plate covering the axle, so they're called hidden axle blocks. My version: Attachment 23147 cut the 1.5" inner diameter piping in half Attachment 23148 space the two sections apart using 1.5" pieces Attachment 23149 Bevel all the edges and weld it up then grind them smooth Attachment 23150 now do the other side Attachment 23151 I had some spare aluminum from building my last intake manifold, so i used that for the covers Attachment 23152 to attach them I made some little tabs to go on the inside, welded a nut to the backside. and countersunk the holes in the cover for the screws Attachment 23153 Attachment 23154 Attachment 23155 Attachment 23156 Attachment 23157 These basically took me all day and they're not done yet, still have the cut the plate that goes on the backside for the axle. I might make another aluminum cover for the one because the fit is kind of poor. Other than that, I was pretty happy with how well these came out. Never tried it before, but it was a lot of work. Let me know whatcha think thanks Sky |

What size tubing is it. I can't seem to find it skimming back through? Think that bender will do 1.75x.250 wall Cromoly? I am looking at buying a JD2 but I will have to do the air over hydro too.

The bender is supposed to be able to do up to 2" tubing, but I don't think it will do .25" wall stuff. That's pretty hefty and you shouldn't need that kind of thickness for anything automotive. I know the die that I bought says the max wall thickness it'll do is .134" BTW thanks for the sticky! |

I worked some more on my handlebars today, when I changed to the new forks I lost the mounting point for the headlight. That thing looks stupid anyway, so I'm building an integrated mount with my handlebars :) I just completed the first step today with the front crossbar, but it will have another piece of piping the same size curving downward to where the light will mount. It should look really neat and function good as well. Then I did the final welding on the handlebars and added the tabs where the screws go to keep it tight.
Let me know whatcha think. Thanks Sky Attachment 23077 Attachment 23078 Attachment 23079 Attachment 23080 Attachment 23081 |

thinking you need to cut some steel blocks, and drill them so it's like those flat rolled exhaust clamps, so you don't have the steel stretch and loosen your bar grip on the forks.
