if i were you i would visit your local welder supply store and rent a bottle, its usually like 50-70 a year with very cheap refills.

flux core welding will make you disappointed and make you think you suck at life, but really its just supper hard to do. get some argona dnswap wire and you will notice you can actually weld.

flux core welding is like a strip club: it sucks, cause you arent accomplishing much, and youre losin money!

the way i mig is i use very high heat and move as fast as possible, i paint cars so i kinda have good hand movement and hand judgement

Depends on the thickness of the metal. If it's thinner, I put the speed up (around 7). If it's thicker, I can get a better weld with less material, so I put it down to about 5 or so.

On both migs that I have logged lots of time on welding manifolds and intercooler piping, exhaust, etc. I have never used a wire feed speed of over 3 on the scale. I'm not too shabby with the flux core migging either.

When you feed new wire into a cheap welder, have the gun out as striaght as possible. They tend to shoot the wire through the wall of the tube it goes in if it's curved a little bit.

Ya man, don't get out of shape about flux core welding. To most of us a "successful" flux core job is one where it doesn't break & doesn't leak. Some people have to lay 3/8" tall by 1/2" wide bead just to get it done. Just concentrate on getting a good weld until you get the hang of it & leave the asthetics for the grinder for now.

OK so i went and bought some new wire... i was using the wire that came with the unit and had to get more... i got .30 Flux Core Gasless and .30 Mild steel Gas wire... i have used the flux core wire and it turned out better than what i thought... it had almost no splatter and i kept it on the same setting's as in the picture... i'll do some more weld's with it and take pictures for everyone to see... thanks everyone for the help...

coolness. Ya, some brand name wire cuts down on the majority of splatter.
