my RWD CRX project
ok... for a while i've been rumbling a bit about this project for those that know me. i have finally started the ball rolling. now don't get too excited because i am no hurry to finish this project because i want to do it right and only do things once. i have a soft target of 2 years and a budget hopefully keeping cost under $6k. it will be boosted as well so it isn't going to be easy, but doing 100% of the work myself will keep costs down. hopefully. i also have a couple different ideas i want to implement on this project as well.
finally got my car towed to the shop since the engine was pulled out over the winter. sold the engine and everything i had under the hood and all the parts i was collecting to build the motor. i even sold the turbo setup... i was able to scrape together almost $6k from the sale of everything. no way i would have even got that for the complete car probably. i still have a couple small items to sell but i'm not really worried about selling them right now. so here is where i am: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC08625.jpg car is in the shop, i have the complete drivetrain together other than a few small details. i picked up an F20c complete with the whole rear end and everything but i've done some research and i've opted to go with a silvia S14 rear end since they are stronger than the s2k's AND i can almost get double what i paid for the s14 by selling the s2k rear end... just need to sell it first. anyway, i picked up the rear end off a local guy who deals in a lot of jdm nissan parts. he sold the spindles off this rear end because they were 5 bolt and i'd actually prefer 4 bolt... that way i won't have to buy new wheels, but i'd like to put wider wheels on eventually when $ allows. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC08630.jpg why f20c? because it was a good deal and i really wanted to keep the power under the hood coming from a honda mill. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC08632.jpg http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC08631.jpg so far i've started stripping the engine bay... i think a great deal of work is going to be tearing the car down! i have a great deal of respect for anyone who does a complete rebuild. it is very time consuming. and i'm only getting started! http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...h/DSC08627.jpg i will update this thread, but it is going to be a slow process. |

the S14 vlsd kinda sucks, it suck enough that you might want to step up to a 1.5/2 way. And sell me the vlsd ;)

That was always my thought on something like this. Just remember you can always use some type of pivot system if it's way off off alignment and you can't get a straight shot to the knuckles. |
Re: my RWD CRX project
chiming in for updates. i will be watching this till the end.
on a side note, i have similare plans with a 2nd gen geo metro and 13b |

Re: my RWD CRX project
Nice project...cant wait to see
Who gets to tune it Aaron? I might have to make the short trip up and do it for free if you let me O0 Also, are you going to be running AEM? |
Re: my RWD CRX project

Attachment 24893
Change these bushings now with either the nismo, or solid aluminumbushings. the go out rather quickly and make the rear end slightly unstable |
Re: my RWD CRX project
---- yeah!
...I hope to see this covered in the pages of Turbo in a couple years. |

Re: my RWD CRX project
How long is it from the shift knob to crank pulley? Looks kinda long to have it come out the stock shifter hole and still sit behind the crossmember. Should have it sit behind the front wheels and make it a midship engine. Just mount the seat back alittle further and get a extend steering wheel hub adapter and some wood blocks on the pedals. :P

Either way I am game to help you out and be a part of it. I'll come up there if you want or trailer it down and we'll throw it on my dyno :D |
Re: my RWD CRX project
I suggested nismo or aluminum because those are really your only options. Nissan won't sell the OEM bushings seperately, you have to buy a new subframe. If you dont change them, at least look into spacers that compress the bushing making it stiffer and prolong the life. The oem busshings tend to go out around 50-80k.
Oh and I was serious about the r200 differential sucking and you should sell it to me. |

Re: my RWD CRX project
i don't know if this is a stupid question or if it's possible but would u able to mover the car back a little. like line it up to where it would sorda sit in the engine bay. go so we could get an idea of how far back the shifter is really going to sit. cause it looks like u will have to almost sit in the hatch LoL.
but nice build so far. i want to see more pictures. |
Re: my RWD CRX project
Will this be a track car? if so go strait for aluminum. The only bad thing about solid aluminum is a lot more road noise. Youu car also use 300zx rear hubs, they are alum so they weigh less and they are 5 lug too. not to mention 2 pistons brakes in the rear
|
Re: my RWD CRX project
Hell by the time you get the rearend in there and the engine/tranny in. You probably won't even need a driveshaft. lol.
|
Re: my RWD CRX project
Wow rwd CRX is like my dream car and if any one is up to the task it is you O0 Keep the updates coming this is going to be one of HMT's finest projects to date :y

Re: my RWD CRX project
So I taking it you just putting the shifter in the stock shifter location and where ever the engine ends up is where it is? Nothing to set the engine back as far as possible for better weight distribution? Isn't the front of the engine going to be sitting pretty close if not hitting the radiator support or sharing the same space as the radiator? More pics Aaron!!!

Re: my RWD CRX project
Why don't you look at the S2K steering setup?
|
Re: my RWD CRX project
Cause the engine is completely behind the crossmember on the S2K and to do that with the CRX the firewall would need to be "really" massaged.
|
Re: my RWD CRX project
interesting :D
