My "new" car

I dont know if this will work for this post but it is my "new"

Car will have a sbc of some sort in under the hood within the next 3 months
(I am torn between oldschool with carb, or new lt1 or ls1 if I go true oldschool I can do full v8 swap 400whp for 4k in this little rocket)

Car weighs 2200lbs without me in it it is a 71 240z manual
I tuned the carbs out and got it running pretty good now, it pulls away from our chipped 04 4 door cummins dodge making about 400whp so it isnt to bad all stock :)

Will have this post for all the fab work going into this little bugger when it all goes down

RB swap FTW.... :y

nice buy....looks super clean!...

Re: My "new" car

needs watanabe wheels, those rivit on flares, black paint and I would rock a sr20 swap but the sbc is cool to.

sgoertz 01-07-2007 03:30 PM

Re: My "new" car

Yep and I bet you couldnt guess the price
$2500
I have about $100 in it in putting in new fuel lines, fixing brakes, etc and it runs like a champ
the car hasnt been driven in 20 years (the plate says nov 87 lol I need to change that b4 I get a ticket)

for the cost of a rb26 swap I could do a ls1 and turbo it make 600whp and still have some change left over lol

Here is the more or less end product when I get done with it
http://web.mac.com/markrolston/iWeb/...s/IMG_5180.jpg
it will be a nice glossy black with yellow racing stripes though
on the hood it will say 570 z ;)

Re: My "new" car

I was just going to clean it all up paint the block polish the valve cover etc (make it look blingy) and throw it on ebay it doesnt smoke it runs perfect I have seen some go on ebay for 2k longblock only in this condition but if you want it let me know what you would give for it
will be everything :
full long block
tranny
clutch/flywheel
I am not really trying to get rich off it but I would like to get to ease the price of the swap

hell of a pickup for the price. my buddy is actually in the process of swapping an ls1 into his 280

Re: My "new" car

The ls1's are getting to be a decent price, and they weigh 150lbs lighter than a standard small block. In a car like that, with no weight in the back, you'll be swapping ends like crazy with a standard small block.

ps.. dont forget about the brakes.. all that power, you need something to haul it down from your repetitive trips to 140mph..

I have a 355sbc in my 73 914... lots of fun!

I ------- love 240Z's :y That looks really mint, is all the floor boards etc good? That is a smoking deal the 240's are starting to get kinda pricy especially for a mint looking one like that.

Actually there is just minor surface rust on the floor boards nothing all the way through no holes

I got the car from a guy that was going to restore it but gave up he got it from original owner which parked and garaged it since 87

This car was actually on ebay and was going to sell for around 5k (it still had 2 days on the auction and already had 20 bids and was at 2k) I went down there and snatched it up for 2500$ cash so I wouldnt have to pay the big price later lol

Dont worry when I get done you will have thought the car came out of the show overhaullin ;)
Luckly there is a huge amount of aftermarket for this car and everything is cheap

This is going to be my fun daily driver and my sbc racer
I will do a 8 point cage in it to keep the frame from going to hell with the big v8 also
will eventually go over to a newwer lsd r200 rear end

theres one on ebay now with the v8 swap "buy it now" for 15k. At least you know if you get bored you can make a hefty sum off of it.

And damn that 355 looks like it fits in there with plenty of room to spare. your going to go carb'ed right?

Zeniceguycrx 01-07-2007 09:03 PM

we paid 9g for ours but it was fully restored, no rust and a lot of performance done. We seen a tjhe trophys from the Z meets

I probably will unless I choose to do some fi then I will end up going efi for the easier tuning
I still think 2x gt30r and ls1 @ 10 lbs of boost would = one major bad ass in this light car ;)

when i wanted a z a couple years back i used to frequent hybridz.org (i think thats the site)...

the coolest swap i had seen, beside the RB and 2JZ was a GN 3.8 turbo with a corvette IRS. with your resources you could do better than the cookie cutter SBC swap.

I agree. Do something off the wall and not so normal. Swap a D15 in it. :1

Re: My "new" car

The thing is I really want to go with a v8 though mainly for that nice sound ;)
engines of choice in order
ls2
ls1
lt1
rb26

That is the list I will go through when it comes time to drop an engine in but $$$ will play a big factor as this is just my daily beater my s2k is my real race car and any $$$ i put in this car takes away from the s2k

Re: My "new" car

I always debated what to put in my 280Z and always had a 13b in the back of my head. You should see the room in the engine bay after that. You could fit another 13b inside there. Instead I just picked up a T4 60-1 and some other things for it. Oh check out Hybridz.org and thats have everything covered front to back about swapping ---- into Z's. Motorsportauto.com has huge selection of stuff and the flares that you want. It's where I got mine. They carry alot of really nice carbon fiber body parts for it...hatch,hood and flares.

Is that original paint? From the pics it looks beautiful. If it is, I say (as if you really want my opinion or anyone else's here :P) keep the paint and just focus on the motor...

anyways, kudos on finding a beautiful Z!

sgoertz 01-12-2007 10:30 AM

Re: My "new" car

no the guy who had it before painted it in his garage, it is original color but not original paint
it looks that good from 5 feet away but when you are up close you can see some runs and spots where dust got in it

Re: My "new" car

If you need any help on the LSx swap let me know. I have a ton of information in my head about those motors. We are talking about doing a tube framed LS series motor to go ice racing with next year. I work with a guy that has about 4 of them in his garage. He said the biggest problem is the rearend, but if you find all the crap from a 280 you will fine.

Re: My "new" car

Alot of people with high hp S30's go with the Q45 LSD rear end and they handle pretty much everything thrown at them. They make adapter flanges to connect the stock axles to the Q45 diff. They were made to handle a V8 and hauling a heavy ass Q45 and are quite cheap.

So when did the G35 ever come with a V8? Damn those VQ's are some of the ugliest engines I've ever seen. I always think it's corny when people say ---- like that...oh theres only so & so in "THE WORLD" with this and that. It just seem really ignorant.

scottsi 01-13-2007 05:08 PM

Re: My "new" car

the vq is garbage, vg is much better. vq throws rods at anything higher than 450 hp

Well its a v8 out of an infinity thats all I can tell you G30? its from an older infinity since he grabbed it the U-pull it yard for dirty cheap...and he had to do tons of fab work to shoe horn the motor in there I'd give him credit for doing the swap and how is that ignorant if he took the time to do something different and is only one of 2 atleast people have show to the world...is that better?
