i dont think you explained to me in another mani thread you made about why you use individual exhaust flanges instead of a solid one? does it allow more expasion due to heat or just merely something thats kind of your signiture?

It's used because of the head design. Some heads use individual flanges for each runner.

ok but is it more for clearance or stability? i understand some applications use the design but wouldnt it be more worthhile to use a one piece flange for longevity?

most motorcycle exhaust headers seal with individual gaskets for each cylinder port to it is a good idea to have each runner seal with its own flange to help ensure a proper seal. the head on this engine actually has part of the casting forming a pocket that the gasket sits in, hence the reason why the flanges are not at the end of the pipes. in a lot of headers the flange will actually be loose on the runner with a step on the runner that it forces into the gasket. i think if i do another bike header, this is how i would do it to make it easier to line up all the holes... i was just pressed for time making this one so i just welded the flanges to the pipe rather than making a step for them to seat against.
