What ------- MR2 downfalls? They do everything but drift & do it at an ungodly price. They don't like drifting... But otherwise they're cheap & have more potential without spending lots of money than miatas (on a race-track, or drag) if you snag a 3-4K gen1 4a-gze, or a 5-6k gen2 3s-gte.
But that's really splitting hairs.
Miatas and MR2's are freaking killer on race-tracks. They take down things they have absolutely no business even being on a track with cost-wise. And MR2's can be surprizingly fast with small boost ugprades & bolt-ons. Real, real easy 13s drag cars. Now the N/A ones. They're not bad. Alot like... Driving a Miata lol! Just it's a Toyota.

o0Quicksilver0o - I'm partial to the MR2, just because they don't cost alot more than old 94 miatas. Get more for the money in my mind. The cost of selling a working 3s-gte & transmission pays for swapping a v6 in, and I know way too much about tuning them so. It's just that the sound of a Toy v6 bouncing around 5500-7000rpm, lotta torque out of corners. And having it mid-engined at the same time. It's addictive. Good stuff for me!

What I'd really like, is a mild turbo v6 swapped MR2, or something like a rebuilt turbo Rover v8 Miata. Either one would just be ungodly on a race track. Wouldn't matter which.

But I do highly advise you. If you like Miata's give all 3 MR2 generations a spin. They are all very different animals. gen1's are light & potentually the fastest, gen3's are new & best handling of the bunch. Gen2 turbo's are the brute fast ones.

oh i didnt know enough about them to think of mods, simply talking stock. when i spoke of downfalls i am talking about driving one, you have to relearn driving with them again, and if you go back to a front engine car itll take you a while to get used to it again. once you loose grip its hard to stay in control and they dont seem like loads of fun to work on with an engine in the back. they dont have room to put anything but neighther does the miata. like spare tires and such and if you want a t top they compromise alot of things to get that to happen. i was about thiiiis close to saving for one and not doing another miata, but those reasons kept me from doing it. but strong points you make.

Oh gemmie a break LoL! Love your MR-S!!! But if you want to see STUFFING an engine installation. The new 2gr-fe 3.5L v6 out of the Camry platform, crammed into an MR-S's *** end.

*That's* MR-Stuffing!

sweet mr2's, but one downfall of them is you cant save your ---- on a turn if you didn't calculate the speed right like you can on non midship cars. loosing midship cars out from under you ------- sucks because there's no getting them back.

Toy v6's fit great. They're quite compact.
In the case of a gen2 MR2, the v6's fet better than the i4's in the engine bay. Better than the Camry platforms they come out of in the case of the car engines. If you can do physically do a 3s-gte + E153 transmission swap. You can do a v6 + E53 swap & have more clearance. The trnasmissions are of the same family. With the linkage on the oppoiste sides & the gear ratios being signifigantly different.

The entire Camry platform always shares engines & engine families.
