1/8th wall seamless mild 1.75" od

the dude at the metal shop we buy all of our stuff from at work said its what all the locals use for their roll cages so i would guess itd work well for this. feels a little thinner than the sch 40 manifold tubing accually so i think itll hold up just fine. esspeically with the tri point top corners that will see all the stress in a roll over.

busted my *** keeping the weight out and this was about 55 pounds

that looks sick are you going to make brackets to bolt it in or are you going to weld it on the floor pan?

It's a little overkill but not too much. 1.5-1.625x.095 would have been fine. My biggest concern with Miata bars is that the bar is both above and well behind the drivers head. Most Miata drivers over 5'9" its simply too hard to make a bar that fits under the top and is still safe for the driver.

so true. it was so hard trying to find the balance of functionality and still being able to put a hard top on. my bar is further back than the hard dog ones but i am still goingto pad it... pretty much a nessesity anyways. as for the height issue that is as high as i can go and still clear a hard top. my helmet is about 1 inch below the highest point on my bar with my seat in auto x position so ill have to mod the seat brackets to lower myself more or take out some padding out the seat so i can be 2" lower than the highest point to be scca legal.

Just for the books, this will not pass any SCCA, IMSA, NRHA, or any other club.

funny how they can turn you around for this and not having a bar is fine in some groups. i wasnt really concerned with passing as much as looking at what they want so i know when i can consider myself to be safe you know.

for mounting my meathod will be to set it in the bar on some 1/8th inch plates that are pre drilled and then take out the bar and drill the car and backing plate and bolt them all in then set the bar back in and weld to the plates. should keep it all lined up right and have the best fitment that way i would think.

You built a strong peice, but all clubs require a "pretty bar". You have no bars supporting the main hoop.

yea the rear two support the main hoop it will have 4 mounting points. the two rears should keep it from collaspsing. all of the scca legal bars use 4 mounting points. dont really know how you can put any other support bars in unless you did a full cage to the front of the car.
