a lil project this week...
5 Attachment(s)
Well i'm doing a mpfi swap on my crx dx and was not very impressed with the size of the stock D16A6 intake manifold. sence the car will be boosted in the next few days i thought i would take anvantage of a few parts i had laying around.
plans: weld a stock b16 intake plenum to the runners of the d16a6 IM. stock a6 IM Attachment 28262 stock b16 plenum Attachment 28263 fitment Attachment 28264 all done and welded up Attachment 28265 Attachment 28266 Now no making fun of my shitty welds... first time trying aluminum and i have to say it is deffanetly weird.... port matching will be done here shortly... so how do you think this will help flow? sence it has a bigger plenum and shorter runners? |
Re: a lil project this week...
i have no clue but that looks tits! id rock it :y
|
Re: a lil project this week...
less torque low end more high end flow
|
Re: a lil project this week...
the head will have to be port mached as well other wise there will be a "lip" that will create flow restriction :y
but if everything is port mached it should be a very good improvement |
Re: a lil project this week...
Looks pretty sweet. Just a lil portin' and that ---- will be good. Were the ID of the runners the same?
|
Re: a lil project this week...
no the d16 runners were about a 1/8" smaller... so i need to port match to even the flow.
so i plan on only smoothing the transition from the b16 runners to the d16 runners will it hurt the flow if i keep the lil bit of d16 runners the stock sizeing? |
Re: a lil project this week...
you should have done your port matching before you welded it up! it would have been much easier. it looks good for your first aluminum welding... cast is never fun.
|
Re: a lil project this week...
Yea now that you said it and after taking a look at it i should have ported before i welded it.... oh well there is always next time.

Re: a lil project this week...
did you Mig weld that thing??
|
Re: a lil project this week...
lol nope... thats my great tig welds..... all that goodness after about 20 min of practice.... ;D
|
Re: a lil project this week...
lol what machine? i didnt mean it as an offense btw, just that the welds are big so it looks like its been miged
|
Re: a lil project this week...
I have a sycro 200... ohh yea i know i suck at aluminum..haha its cool
|
Re: a lil project this week...
1/8" aw ---- it. its a HMT project anyways... why go through the hassle of grinding it down etc when the runners to the head are smaller to begin with! Unless you have too much time on your hand ;)

Re: a lil project this week...
A smooth transition to a bottle neck is still better than and abrupt change. Plus the bottleneck will increase velocity, should keep any bottom end you're losing. Think of it like opening up the port.
